Yeah, maybe that had been kind of a harsh response to this guy. But Ethyl wasn’t typically one to consider how her words might seem to others. And being quite the caustic and cynical woman, she never felt the need to.
It shouldn’t have been a surprise that someone had approached her. She was kind of beaten up and wounded. Long story short, she’d found herself in an altercation with a local thief, and said thief had proven to be stronger than she’d given him credit for.
Anyone caring enough would have expressed concern. And apparently, this blond man was said ‘caring person.’
“I’m--fine.” Ethyl spoke between breaths. She was still kneeling on the ground, using her hands to prop herself up. The wounds on her face and torso were still fresh, and a few of them looked awfully painful.
Clearly, she wasn’t fine.
