My Thoughts On: The Backloggery (not sponsored)
Hi there! It's Alex! On January 1 of 2022 I decided that I wanted to keep a backlog of all my games I collect and which ones I've played. On the recommendation of a friend, I decided to use The Backloggery as my site of choice. On January 1 of 2023 I had my one-year site anniversary, and I figured now is as good a time as ever to write a quick post about my experiences there!
The Backloggery has been public since 2007, but the concept started in 2004 when the developer had the idea to track his games in an Excel spreadsheet to sort them by platform and mark which ones were played. This idea later developed into the site we know as The Backloggery!
The site functions on the basic system of listing all your own games by hand. It's up to you how you sort your games, how you title them, and most importantly, how you mark their progress. There's a few basic categories: Unplayed/Unfinished is when there's been no significant progress, though you can add a progress note if you so choose; Beaten is generally marked by the defeat of a final boss or the viewing of the credits; Complete is when you've obtained all collectables or cleared all challenges; and finally Mastered is up to you to decided, as your own personalized challenge run of a game. These criteria can be different for each game, and are up to you to determine whether you are finished with a game or not.
The site offers a few metrics to track your progress to defeat your backlog, and even grants status badges to your profile for things you've been doing lately! As of writing this, I've beaten a few games in a row without buying any new ones, so I have the "On Fire" badge.
There's also a feature called the multitap, which allows you to add users to a list that shows on your profile so that you can check in on others and compare your progress. This is essentially a follower system, as you can add someone to your multitap, but they don't have to add you to theirs. You can also leave profile comments, so people will often ask for and share thoughts on various games and consoles, as well as chat about how life's going and how their gaming hobby has been keeping up! If you're lucky, you'll find your way into a small circle of people who like to check in on each other and build your own small community! I've shared game recommendations and received plenty from people I chat with on my multitap! The community as a whole is very welcoming and such a great place to be! (though if that's not your style, you can set your profile to private and just use it for yourself)
Whenever you update a game's completion status, it gets added to your Memory Card section, so you can look back at the last 100 entries you've updated, and receive a total progress analytic for the year! For example, in 2022 I made a total of +18 games towards beating my backlog.
Profiles are fully customizable, from the profile picture and banner, all the way down to the text colors. It's got a very 2000s blog site kind of feel (she said on Tumblr), and it gives each person's profile the sense that you're really connecting with this person and their gaming journey!
In the end, I cannot recommend The Backloggery enough, as its got so many tools and functions but still maintains a user-friendly interface and builds wonderful little gaming communities around its users. If you decide to join up, feel free to drop by my profile and say hi! Thanks for reading, and be sure to ask questions and suggest new post ideas in my ask box! Stay safe, stay hydrated, and God bless! Happy gaming to ya!

Added a link to my Backloggery page on my blog, so I thought I’d post it here too for the hell of it.
If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically my whole game collection and my progress on every game- feel free to add me if you’re on there, it’s a lot of fun if you’re into gaming stuff!
Anyone else have a Backloggery that'd like to add me?
I'm Stathio on there!
For those of you who don't know about it, or might wanna get into it, it's an awesome social network (of sorts it's actually pretty light on the social aspect) where you can list and track your game collection- it's great for keeping track if you're a collector, plus you can rate each game and mark it as 'Unfinished', 'Beaten' or 'Completed', so you get some pretty cool stats to look over once you've added them in- which admittedly takes a while at first, but after putting your initial game collection in, it's a cinch to keep up with, and helps you be loads more organised with collecting/playing your games. It makes the whole thing really fun.
The staff are a bunch of really nice people who do streams all the time, and it's just generally a really pleasant gaming site, I recommend it.
It also pretty much turns gaming itself into a game- I'm trying to beat my whole collection, one game at a time, and it gives you an overall rating based on what you've beaten/completed, scaled down if you own under a certain amount of games. You can compare scores with friends you've added, and it ranks you and the people on your friends list, but it's all just for fun, and it's not a competition or anything, it is really satisfying to gradually work your way up the ranks though. It's cool as a personal challenge, since everyone's friends list will have different ranks.
So yeah! Add me! And I'll add you! I love this stuff!
I might start posting my Backloggery updates here on Tumblr too, since I just enjoy keeping track of all this stuff. I even turned my Backloggery stats into an RPG on Google Spreadsheet, might post that later after I update it- I had a ton of fun building it, and I'm still going!
Have a large game collection? Like to see what you still have to complete? Want to share your collection with your friends? Here's a way to show all the games you've played, own, beaten, mastered, 100%ed, etc!
Backloggery.
Yay, I finally got an account. New accounts were closed for so long, so if anyone else was waiting, now might be your chance!
