I've been thinking that the absolutely batshit story of The Batavia would make for a great season of The Terror. Another maritime incident, mutiny, murder...it has it all. It wouldn't even have to be supernatural, I feel like the suspense and potential gore would make it scary enough

and in a perfect world they'd cast Jared Harris and Tobias Menzies bc they're perfect to me and i want to be delusional

also if you havent read the story of The Batavia its amazing and insane and horrifying

I do often wonder how much Dutch children are taught about The Batavia. Surely Dutch kiddies enjoy a fun excursion to learn about The Batavia..... Please surely tell me they do, all students should enjoy murderous, high violence story that happened in real life. They yearn for it.

Went to the WA Shipwrecks Museum! The first 3 pictures are of The Batavia, the last 3 pictures are from other Dutch Wrecks that went down on the northern coast of Western Australia.

Skeleton and musket balls from gruesome 1629 shipwreck and mutiny unearthed in Australia

Archaeologists have unearthed human remains and two musket balls from a horrific seventeenth-century shipwreck and massacre on a remote island off the coast of Australia.

The skeleton, found on Beacon Island, is believed to be linked to the loss of the Batavia in 1629, a Dutch East India ship whose wreck was followed by the massacre of more than 100 survivors by a group of mutineers.

The ship, carrying silver and jewels, went down on its maiden voyage, leaving many of the 340 passengers to scramble for safety on Beacon Island. Jeronimus Cornelisz, who was in charge of the cargo, led a mutiny and slaughtered about 125 people but was eventually tried and hanged after having both his hands cut off.
