biography
( tw: pregnancy )
Death and love are the great equalizers.
No one is safe from their tender touch, their unescapable embrace. From the greatest of monsters wearing a mortal guise to the softest of lieges. Love happens, crossing barriers, crossing beliefs, crossing even the most unsurpassable of mountains. The love between lovers, consecrated before their gods. The love of a parent to their child, holding them close as their first cries break through the silence of the time of their birth. The love between friends, the devotion that drives them to follow each other to the end of the world. Unexpected as it can be, overwhelming and all-encompassing.
Not all love endures all challenges, but some are.
It is the love that comes rather unexpectedly, overwhelmingly and most importantly: it is the love that endures the darkest of nights.
Mikhail’s life is owed to one of those loves.
It is not a romantic sort of love that brings him forth, as many believe, not the desperate romance between a naive human and a charming devil; but the love of a woman who has just figured that she has waded too deep into the water and decides to remain there despite the easier choice being to turn around and return to the steady land.
His mother had been a wanderer, born in Ankhuria, she had chosen to explore the world with nothing but the magic on her fingers and the clothes on her back. Talia of Maferath was just one warrior amidst many, yet another spear dancer that had braved the world in a Sinarian ship, protecting the merchant's wares. Yet no matter how far she went, her heart was always called back to Ankhuria and to Maferath, the city too dear for her to leave behind permanently.
It is to Maferath that she chooses to return, once she realizes that the night of drunken stupor that had led her to stumble upon a bed with a demon had borne fruits that she had not accounted for. A pregnant woman was a liability on the battlefield, and she did not want to risk the child growing inside of her for all that many would have suggested she get rid of them based solely on their parentage.
She would not do such an act.
From the moment she had realized what grew inside of her— who grew inside of her — she had known she would love her child more than she had loved anything else.
That was the end of it all.
It was the beginning of it all, as well.
Mikhael of Maferath was born on a midwife’s shack, in the peak of a sandstorm, the rolling grains an ominous welcome to the world, befitting his kind. Tales of the identity of his father were shared between neighbors but none would realize that young Talia’s son was the half-living creature that so many hated merely for the circumstances of their birth and parenthood.
Mikhael grew up knowing his mother’s love, knowing the truth of his parentage and of his origins. It is not something his mother could have hidden, not something she had tried to hide, but it weighed over his shoulders heavily nonetheless.
Raised under the Light of the Vanguard, worshiping at the temple of the One God, revering Baal; the truth of his origins was a constant companion, and one that he could not hide from. Half-living as he was, his father’s blighted blood still flowed through his veins and he could not worship properly at the temple of the One God, overwhelmed with fear as he was at the sight of his epithets.
That did not stop the young child, who had been raised with the stories of Ishtu’s leadership and greatness; who had seen the unwavering faith on his mother’s eyes as she talked about the times when she had basked in Baal’s presence, the times her spear had moved as if by the One God’s will; who had seen the charity delivered upon others by the true believers, the genuine good that could be born from the dimmest lights of faith.
Fear struck him every time he entered the temple of the One God to revere Baal, the ruler of Maferath and everything that the sun shone upon in Ankhuria, but fear did not stop the young cambion that soon became a man. It would never stop him, stubborn as he is, faithful that he is to his King, his living God, despite the ever present fear coiling at his gut. It would never stop him, as he learned to dance the spears, desiring to become a warrior akin the Great Ishtu, one that led the world into a brighter age without hesitation, with fear and yet not beholden by it.
Mikhael had learned the spears at his mothers lap, learned of bravery by her tongue, learned that courage is not the absence of fear but the action despite it.
He learned to be courageous for those who could not be, learned to fight for those who could not protect themselves, learned kindness when the blood on his vein could have driven him to cruelty instead. His unwavering faith drove him upon a path that his mother could not call her own, for she had been born to the travel of caravans, and of the Sinarian ships; not the constant challenges found within the halls of the Warrior’s Guild.
Yet she did not begrudge him for his choice, not when she saw the passion on his eyes, the quiet determination to spread the word of the One God to the four corners of Taravell, not when she saw his determination to become the spear that held back the darkness for those who could not do it themselves.
It’s this determination that rests upon his breast as he throws himself upon each and every test of skill the Warrior Guild of Ankhuria sends his way until he has overcome them all and becomes an official member. It is that passion that leads him far from the sands of his home and towards the dangerous shores of a nation that would see him die by the sin of being born. Fear settles on his chest as he first lays his eyes upon the Iskaran shores, but it does not stop him as he steps upon the jaws of the beastly kingdom. The Witcher’s shadows loom large upon the cambion as he makes it to the pillaged temple, but he sets his fears aside, well aware he has a duty and a contract to fulfill. Whoever had dared to pillage one of the One God’s sacred temples would not stop her ransacking by herself.
Justice needed to be served, and for that, he had no time for his fear beyond acknowledging that it laid bare at his breast.
Hunting had always come easy to Mikhael, stalking the shadows second nature as he followed the trail of his prey until she could not escape.
Mikhael fell on them swiftly and devastatingly, divine retribution in action as his spear danced between her blades. The fight was over before it began, intent as he was to finish the request before he attracted undue attention. There was too much at risk for him to stay for longer than necessary, and regardless, the Guildmaster that had passed along the request awaited news. There was no need for him to stay longer, yet the choice to leave was taken before his eyes the moment Helskorn Bastion fell.
The path to the sea was blocked, so to the mountains he fled, following the refugees and forced to run despite his desire to help. One man against an army could do nothing, not when any possible ally could turn on him if he showed his hand. No. If he had stayed, he would have died, and it had not been his time to meet the One God.
In Yggdrasildal he ended, counted amidst the refugees fleeing the devastation of the magi empire. A wolf amongst sheep, a cambion in the company of witchers, yet an equal to their ilk, now.
There are two great equalizers, after all: love and death.
And now they were all equal, as they ventured forth; defying death and seeking salvation.

THE BLIGHTED ~
NAME. UTP AGE & BIRTH DATE. 30+ SPECIES. Cambion FACTION. Vanguard of the Light & Warrior's Guild OCCUPATION. UTP
You were born amidst the sands of Ankhuria, at the temple to the One God you revered Baal, the ruler of Maferath and everything that the sun shone upon in Ankhuria. Your King, a living God, an emperor beyond reproach. Here in Ankhuria you learned to dance the spears, militant as you enlisted within the Warrior's Guild to learn best how to serve the light. This would be your legacy, to spread the word of the One God to the four corners of Taravell with your spears and your unfailing devotion. A contract led you to Bjarnheim, to the Iskaran shores where a murderer had pillaged one of the One God's sacred temples, ransacking those within for personal gain. You saw them apprehended, far from home, they were fated for the mines with proof from the witchers that you had succeeded in your contract. Intent to return to the Guildmaster who'd passed along the request, Aetheron attacked, and between two forces of nature, you were nearly ground to dust. To the mountains you were pushed to flee, a devout amidst the flock, a hidden cambion seeking asylum among those who would have just as quickly seen you thrown in prison alongside the murderer you apprehended.

The Blighted expedition in No Man’s Sky rewards with some very unique items! Find out what they're like with this handy showcase!
Another No Man’s Sky Expedition under my belt. Two actually since I forgot to post after finishing the last one. The last one was pretty standard, I barely even remember what all they had you do. This one was more interesting because it was the first Expedition that wasn’t set to Normal difficulty, instead opting for Permadeath. Die and you gotta start over from the beginning.
I died twice right away in the very beginning before I realized it Was that high and you’re more fragile. Then I got roughly half way thru and died to a space pirate strafing me while I was on the ground looking for ship fuel, which is a thing I hadn’t experienced before since it’s a newer thing added since I stopped playing much so I wasn’t prepared for it. Forth times the charm though and I got clear thru to the end without any further incidents. Screenshots!
The nice final Expedition reward pop-up for #6.
And the final banner for Expedition #7.
Speaking of the Frigate, here it is! A cool giant space whale to hang out around my Freighter. When I first saw the prize I thought it was a Living Freighter because they were making such a big deal about how huge the Leviathan was, but alas, though a Living Frigate is cool too. Screenshot doesn’t do it’s colors justice unfortunately.
And lastly just updating and rearranging my trophy decal hallway.
Traveling through the galactic core for the Blighted expedition feels like you've made a great achievement in No Man’s Sky!
Diving into the No Man’s Sky oceans in the blighted expedition takes careful oxygen management!
