What if The Medic from Team Fortress 2 opened a dark fountain
I got to thinking about Deltarune's dark worlds and how they bring objects to life and give them names and identities. Then I got thinking about about how TF2's weapons are objects with names and "identities". On top of that I've been playing "Overtime", TheGermanPeter's TF2 Undertale crossover AU game.
All these threads in my mind culminated into the question: "What would TF2's weapons look like as Darkners?" followed by me drawing the answer:
I feel like Medic would be the merc to figure out what a dark fountain is on his own, assuming throwing numbers and science around in your mind can just can just make that happen. I mean, that's basically what we assume Gaster did.
Anyway, on that premise, here's four Darkner concepts, I'll go through each of them one by one:
The Syringe Gun: Vack
Medic's stock weapons form a little team of their own in this dark world, which culminates in the most ambitious one declaring himself their leader. He thinks he's hot shit and that gives him an inflated sense of self-importance. He also won't hesitate to command around his posse if when he thinks he knows better.
His design incorporates little bits of his light world self, I'm especially proud of how I turned those little metal bits into legs. The part of the gun that carries the syringes I turned into a backpack-thing. He doesn't have a part of him that shoots the syringes, he just throws them. He also takes some design cues from the stereotypical Prussian militarist.
The Medi Gun: Nurse Metti
A more timid and easer to please individual. She's inspired by the stereotype of the kind of person who plays support classes, very eager to please and hates to disappoint. She also takes "Do No Harm" seriously, she believes violence should always be a last resort, much to the dismay of Medic. On top of all that, she's ever loyal to her team, much like the stereotypical blighted beak "Medic Girlfriend" is to her pocket. (Though she's not anyone's actual girlfriend.)
As for the design, her outfit is mostly just a Nurse outfit from the 60's-70's. Her arm being the literal Medi Gun was me sort of trying to make her pose in-line with Medic's typical pose. It does function like how you'd expect. The plague doctor mask is based on the in game cosmetic I mentioned earlier. I also like to think she's not conventionally attractive under there, maybe it's like a two-face situation, or maybe she has a smile that's a little too wide.
Here's some WIP sketches of her, in some you can see what I meant. Can you tell this was the character I've been thinking about the most?
The Bonesaw: Bonehund
Y'know, like "bloodhound" but bones, and "hund" like German for "dog"? This is the groups mascot and final member (until Medic comes around). He's a ravenous little guy and he can bite through your bones if he wants too. Despite the name, he looks more like an alligator than a dog, but he does act more like a dog.
Design-wise there's not much to write home about, but I love how it turned out maybe the most of the lineup.
Refrigerated Heart: Hertz
From the German "Herz". Technically this isn't a video game and doesn't need a basic enemy, but I figured there was no harm in making one. This is what the hearts in Medic fridge turn into, big octopus guys. I'd imagine you find them in a part of the dark would based on the fridge itself, a giant icy-cold fortress. And this fortress is headed by the spy head that Medic keeps in there. (Even though this is technically the BLU Medic, but hey if RED can do it, BLU can too.)
