...They're all over the asexual tag. I hate the bot hunt. I mean, it's good to take action, just hating that it needs to be done.

lmao a bot just followed me (thighguys) and when i looked at the blog it had copied like 3 of your posts which was how i realized it was a bot... just thought this was funny/interesting but i recognized the post about martyn and cordelia setting up a christmas tree. bots are getting smarter 👀

Omg. I mean first of all I’m flattered you recognised my posts <3 but also damn I think I’m on some kinda bot list. I gained over 400 bot followers in like a week in November(I think) and I have no idea what to do about them bc I am not wasting my life going through blocking and reporting them all. If anyone has any advice please let me know! Begging tumblr to do another purge 🙏🏻

I have no proof of this, but I've not had to deal with pornbots in a little while but I have recently been followed by a spate of ... vaguely normal url names, for entirely empty blogs, with icons of random women in various styles. I have no proof that these are bots, but the total lack of posts and the... genericness, has caused me to be paranoid: such blogs are being blocked.

If you are a real person, a likely username and actual icon isn't alone enough, especially after the pornbots. Do reblog something.

I'm seeing a lot of new followers who also seem to be new to Tumblr. Please hear me out for a second:

We are in the midst of a serious bot problem here.

Please PLEASE customize your profile in some way—like a blog title, even if it's just "im new asdflkjh", and/or a custom avatar, anything is better than the ugly default one—to let us know you're an actual human being, because seeing stuff like this:

is an automatic block and report. (The example above is an actual bot, btw.)

We're not doing it out of malice. Tumblr users are paranoid. We've been getting inundated with bots for months (they've been a problem for years but there's been a major increase since November '22) and we're trying to get rid of them, and the only way to do that is to block and report them.

If you look like a bot, if you have no avatar and no title and no posts or likes and you start following someone, you're probably going to get reported and blocked. Setting a new avatar and giving your blog a title is the best way to prevent this.

So please, newbies, edit your profile so you don't get mistaken for a bot. Thank you (and welcome to Tumblr) 👋
