A quick point about the bows in Ed’s beard in 105.

The historical Blackbeard it’s alleged would tie ribbon in his beard in order to hold lit fuses. It was part of his theatre of fear. The extent of the truth of this aside, the idea precedes the show.

What OFMD does is take something that’s functional in supporting fear and violence, and subvert it into a chosen thing of beauty in its own right. And therein lies a wider lesson at the show’s core.
