The Duquesne Incline
In full transparency, I am a lights girl. I grew up on the shores of Lake Ontario and spent many a night sitting on the docks and looking across the lake at the Toronto city line. So whenever there is a city with lights on the water - I’m sold. Chicago - sold me. NYC - sold me. And now Pittsburgh - sold me. The Duquesne Incline is a special place because it is actually on located on the side of Mt. Washington. You pay a cash fair of $5 to take an old railway car up the side of the mountain (if we want to call it that) to a lovely overlook (see panoramic picture) from one platform to another. It is an extremely smooth ride and the view is absolutely breathtaking. I highly recommend going to check it out if you know that the special someone in your life is a fan of city lights, or just to see the view. In my opinion, it is the best place to get a full view of all the city has to offer. However, trigger warning: doing this alone may cause you to reflect on your alone-ness. But take it in, and know that it will all be okay. We are all but blinking lights in a city view.
