Reference: Theater and Venue Documentaries

It took a little bit of digging to find documentaries about theater venues, because simply searching online for “documentary on theater venue”/cinema etc turns up showtimes for documentaries showing at various venues. I eventually searched famous venues that I was sure would likely have some documentaries made on them. First I dug up a few about underground punk venues but from my knowledge I don’t think The Cabot is an underground punk venue.

Shakespeare’s Globe Mini-Documentary - 20 minutes, 25 seconds - The Globe was restored in the 70s, so this brings the aspect of history that I want to highlight about The Cabot, the birth and rebirth - This documentary talks to the people behind it and the actors. It doesn’t show much directly talking to the audience, rather filming their reactions. But that is unique to the environment. 

APOLLO THEATER Documentary Short - 8 minutes, 42 seconds - The Apollo Theater is a venue in Harlem, NY that is similar in history and rebirth to (the little knowledge that I know of) The Cabot.  - Watching the documentary reference and use footage from various performances etc brought up prospective concerns about my abilities to use footage and historical context/B Roll for The Cabot. 

I think that’s going to be something I want to tackle early on, and I probably will want to involve myself with the Beverly Historical Society after I get going on this project.

The artful poetry tour conceived by Colleen Michaels of Montserrat College Art in Beverly continues at the iconic Cabot Theater on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 7-9.
