star trek attempting to tackle gender incident leaves 12 injured 6 dead
Don't get me wrong, I love star trek
but man sometimes I really hate star trek
What episode of all of star trek is one that makes you most want to burry your head in a pillow and scream.
Probably “The cogenitor”, which is a transphobic mess from beginning to end. So TW:
TRANSPHOBIA and ABUSE etc:
Trip decides a person without a gender has a gender and is now a he. Misgenders throughout.
Charles’ death is framed as Trip’s fault because he taught them how to read and told them they have value aside from being a literal sex slave.
Archer thinks the worst thing about Charles dying is that the people keeping them as a sex slave now wont be able to have a baby
I REALLY DON’T LIKE THIS EPISODE.
thinking about Connor Trinneer seeing Trip/Phlox/Trissexual in the ent writers room for The Cogenitor and immediately thinking that Trip was going to have an affair with Phlox
“The Cogenitor” is the Star Trek episode that I found most disturbing, in terms of message.
The message goes something like “Don’t interfere with a slave because you’ll make them feel bad about their sexual enslavement and now them being unhappy is your fault. Also please ignore their gender and misgender them consistently because you feel like it’.
I just checked and it was written by... Rick Berman & Brannon Braga.
The Star Trek dream team when dealing with sensitive narratives.
me: oh, finally I got to the "Cogenitor" episode that all those fics mentioned
me:
me: wait but I already know what will happen
me: ...idk if I want to finish this ep at all, actually?
Urrrrrrg this episode of Enterprise makes me so uncomfortable like Trip seriously listen to T'Pol and Dr. Phlox don't meddle in other species lives you can't just insert your values into their values. Enterprise likes to bash messages in our faces so I'm not surprised this episode happened but UGGGGH whyyyyyyy I like Trip so much why is he being like this :(
The scenes between Archer and the alien captain are great.
