Goblins in the Castle (Bruce Coville) - Our Grade 3 teacher read it to us and it still holds up... uh... thirty two years later.

The Silver Chair - See Point 2. Shout-out to Mr. Johnson for some super-formative childhood literature.

Triumff (Dan Abnett) - Absolutely bizarre, cunningly-crafted historical/futuristic(?) novel set in 20th century Elizabethan England, where the West refused to embrace technology and still relies on magic (sort of).

The War of Art (Steven Pressfield) - Found it completely by coincidence on a bench in Central Park with other free books and it's been a massive help for getting off my ass / getting started on creative work.

The Commute....

In a story in which a woman at night

Sits in a shed, dingy and mosquito-laden, 

Trying to read a story-of-no-consequence 

Before the last bus arrives, waiting and reading, 

While the woman in the no-consequence story 

Is about to sign it all off with a big reveal-of-no-purpose; 

In a light so grim that it feels otherworldly, 

Swatting thoughts and mosquitoes away, 

The woman of the poem lingers into the nightwind, 

All sweat and jasmine, relief and reluctance; 

Musing how waiting sheds are museum junk 

And how museums are showcases of decay, 

Or why waiting sheds were like yellow butterflies 

And the smell of bitter almonds to her: She,

Slithering under the moonlight, catching her bus, 

Leaving the town with its unwildernesses and people 

With unqualities and her darkroom that smell of 

Cheap cigarettes and cum in an intricate olfactory pattern. 

She emitted postcards of memory, blueink on lightyellow,
