The Cortex
---- Scene 1 ----
“I didn’t ask to be a part of this.”
Jack was staying up late that night. His brain admitted that he needed sleep, but his actions said otherwise. The movements of sitting at a 90 degree angle, fingers touching the screen of his phone. Not to mention the movement of a tear that migrated to the lower half of his cheek. He only hoped that he could find something on his phone to cheer him up. Even the passing of a kind looking face on an Instagram post could help. At least, he’d liked to have believed that.
“I didn’t want this life.”
He finally came across a video that may answer his wishes for happiness. This had been posted by Tom Cavanagh, someone who gave Jack inspiration even though they hadn’t met. It seemed that Carlos Valdes had joined Tom in this video, and they both sang:

“4 scenes in the cortex
Each one longer than the last
Played by ---
[insert counting]
7 happy campers
All of them having a blast
It’s a blaaast
It’s a blaaast
It’s a blaaast...”
Jack sat there in the dark with pure amazement and awe. This video was everything he wanted to be: an actor, singing at least somewhat flawlessly. If only gender dysphoria wasn’t a thing and all this could’ve been prevented just by one change of a letter in his chromosomes. A real life typo, if you will.
All these desires, yet no answer.

It’s like waking up and not knowing what's a dream and what’s reality. It’s speaking and forgetting the word at the middle of a sentence. It’s being scared because you’re afraid Afraid of losing something you have always dreamed of losing. Trying to find something, a problem and excuse to do what you really want to do Why wait till the last minute There’s no time to waste, no time at all. You say “May God forbid” because that’s really what you don’t want, yet you still think about it.
