with a name like montague, you have to enter show business.
monty grew up in chicago and started out his career as an intern on letterman after graduating from nyu. after three years, he was hired on a permanent basis as a talent booker. his impressive work ethic and passion for the medium soon saw him training new hires across several departments and naturally slotting into a managerial role; he was promised a producer role on the next season, before it was ultimately decided that it was time for someone else to take over the late night mantle.
the morrows wanted the very best crew working on conrad's show. conrad got to make the final call -- in no way was monty expecting the new host to make good on someone else's promise. he was just happy to not be out of work. ultimately, he got all that and more. with the show now in its third year and continually exceeding rating predictions, monty is one of two senior producers and is whom the majority of the staff report to.
best characterised by his analytical and straight-laced approach to work, which to many people clashes with the concept of working on a comedy programme; jokes are often made at his expense. monty is eloquent and reliable, and pompous to the point of obnoxiousness, but to many, he's the cornerstone of the production crew.
his blunt manner, not to mention his expertise, intimidated conrad and many others -- even the younger morrow sons knew not to mess with him. along with his head writer, kit gladwell, and to a lesser extent his colleague, sid reeds, he's one of the few who are truly unafraid of the host, which conrad senses and appreciates.
what sets monty apart is his utmost respect for the disease: you need someone who's a stickler for rules when you're dealing with not only a man cursed to be uncontrollably carnivorous but his mobster faux-family. monty is sympathetic to conrad and his condition but not shy about letting him know when he gets on his nerves. he's often the one to initiate new hires whom it has been decided deserve to know what they're in for -- he's the keeper of the contract, and if you're lucky, he'll warn you of any thin ice before the morrows let you sink.
