Do you ever go back and read your fic if so are you inspired or disappointed? Do you have any favorite fics or authors? Lastly are there any ships that leave you confused i saw Brienne x Sansa today... so
I’ve never gone back and read any of my fics from start to finish unless it’s a one-shot. I’ve been meaning to read Caution: Love And Lust Ahead from start to finish to try to get me back into the writing mood, since it is a more fluffy smutty fun fic. I do read parts on occasion, to try to inspire me.
One fic I am disappointed in and rarely go to is Masque Of Masks. Not that I didn’t enjoy writing it, and I do like the plot twists, but it was my first try at writing after almost a decade. It was a “make it up as I go along” fic, even though I had the twist in mind I wasn’t sure how to flesh it out. Originally meant to be a one-shot of a Masquerade party, it really became very sporadic. A lot was started and dropped, such as a possible Jaime Lannister/Sansa Stark relationship, and it was also meant to have a love triangle that never came to light. Plus, the original posting of that fic had so many readers angry and leaving hateful comments simply because they did not like what I chose to do in my own fic, and I was even accused of “jumping the shark” on it. So, I am disappointed in that one because I’ve always felt it deserves a re-write to smooth the whole thing out.
I do read certain chapters from my fics for inspiration. When someone tells me “I really like this chapter”, I tend to keep it in the back of my mind for when I feel a dry spell. I don’t do it too often because I don’t want to write the same thing in a new fic, I try to change it up, especially the intimate scenes. Oddly I am proud of Warm My Flesh With Your Furs. It was something I cringed about doing when an Anon suggested it, but it was a challenge and I thought I didn’t do half bad with it. My favorite scene is when Robb rescues Sansa from King’s Landing.
I also am proud of The Difference Between Us, my full-length Jonrya fic, and have always wanted to write a sequel with Jon and Arya going on adventures, but I think it stands alone as a good fic. Strangely enough I’ve never really gone back to read any of it since I completed it.
But the fic I’m most proud of, and look to for inspiration, is without a doubt, Don’t Stop Swaying. I know it is my best fanfic and I am OK with that. I put a lot of passion into it, and kept going when certain people tried to bully and push me out of Robbsa. I think I had the final nose-thumbing on that one.
Ok, on to fic authors: unfortunately I don’t have a lot of free time and what free time I do have is reserved for writing and not reading. Someday I would like to finish all of my fics, maybe have 1 full fic going, leaving options for one-shots, and then I would be able to read. So here are a couple of faves on A03: honey_wheeler, kingandqueeninthenorth, Sarah_Black, and emmaliza come to mind off the top of my head.
And to your last question, if any ships leave me “confused”… the answer is no. Why, you might ask? Because everyone has different likes and tastes and my motto is ship whatever you want and leave others alone to be happy with their ships, too. If someone likes a pairing then so be it, I refuse to engage in ship wars or ship harassment or ship shame. I may not care for certain ships but it is irrelevant as to what I don’t care for. My only break from my motto is if someone comes after me or a reader of mine in a hateful, threatening way. Really, it’s a fictional world and if hating pretend couples is what they focus their time on, then they truly have a very sad and empty existence. So, long story less long, I won’t rip on anyone’s likes. I say… have fun with what you like and forget the rest.
Thank you for the questions, Anon. I hope I answered them fully enough for you. :)
