The Dragonfly is a notable Belle Époque painting by French artist Émile Vernon (1872-1920), characterized by its soft, romantic aesthetic and delicate academic technique. The painting captures a serene, fairy-like woman with long blonde hair gazing at a dragonfly perched on her hand.

The background is purposefully under-painted to emphasize the intricate details of the dragonfly's translucent wings, the diaphanous fabric of her dress, and the individual curls of her hair. Vernon combined near-complementary color tension with golden-hour lighting, using terracotta and coral mid-tones to create a luminous "bloom" against deep green shadows.
