DAVID LOOKING FROM THE SIDELINES
yoyo its me again! i was wondering if you could write an unrequited aged up!sam x dwayne... i saw one fic about it and now im obsessed with the concept hehe
i imagine it being like an au where none of the lost boys die and theyre all the characters (minus max) are all friends/family and one of the frogs offhandedly mentions how sam talks about dwayne and his appearence CONSTANTLY. i think it would be very fluffy if not a lil embarrassing for my poor boy sam emerson lol
thank you!! ur writing is so good i HAD to ask for another one
Author's Note: reading this request had confused me until I saw the musical and there's a scene where Sam describes Dwayne in a very interesting amount of detail!! I don't really know how to write characters aged up just yet but I will try my best!
so embarrassing
Aged up!Sam Emerson x Dwayne
The bonfire at the beach had consumed itself into embers by the time everyone relaxed enough to exchange comfortable conversation.
It wasn't quite the dramatic meeting of vampires that is was before now that Max had left… and everyone had gotten all friendly.
Well, mostly
The Emersons always came over on Fridays since Lucy brought enough food to feed an army, Michael and Star always found some way to vanish by the night, Paul taught Alan how to play drums every week, and David pretended he hated family fun nights all the while showing up every time.
Sam was laying sprawled out on top of old beach blanket heaving with Edgar arguing over comic book superheroes.
"I can't believe you actually think Superman beats Batman."
"He does."
"He does not."
Across the fire, Dwayne was helping Marko re-string his guitar.
Sam caught sight of him for a second.
"…Okay, but look at him."
Edgar blinked.
"What?"
"Dwayne."
"What about him?"
Sam shrugged, trying not to sound too interested.
"I don't know."
Edgar followed his line of sight.
Dwayne was laughing at something Marko had said, long hair pulled back for once, sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
"…He's helping with a guitar."
"I know."
"He has nice arms."
Edgar slowly turned to look at him.
Sam immediately turned away.
"What?"
"…Nothing."
Half an hour later.
"…His hair looks different."
Edgar sighed.
"It's pushed back."
"I know." said Edgar, eyebrow now raised in concern.
"It looks nice."
Ten minutes after that.
"I think stripes is really his thing."
Edgar stared. "Dude."
"What?"
"You've been commenting on his hair."
Sam frowned. "So?"
"His arms."
"His jacket."
"His boots."
"And now the stripes."
Sam blinked innocently. "I appreciate fashion."
"You own the most colorful wardrobe possible."
"Thats so not true!."
The conversation was thankfully interrupted when Alan wandered over with two cans of soda.
"What're you guys talking about?"
Edgar opened his mouth to respond when Sam kicked him sharply in the shin. Edgar hissed in pain.
"…Nothing."
Alan narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "You guys never say nothing."
Edgar turned to Sam. Sam looked horrified.
Edgar grinned widely.
"…We were talking about how Sam keeps complimenting Dwayne."
Sam's soul left his body. "…What."
Alan blinked.
"What?"
Edgar counted on his fingers.
"Nice arms."
Sam buried his face in his hands groaning.
"Pretty hair."
"Oh my God."
"Stripes are his thing."
Alan's eyebrows climbed steadily with every word. Sam whined, writhing in shame.
"…Wait."
Alan slowly turned to look between Edgar and Sam."…Sam."
"No."
"…You do talk about Dwayne a lot."
"No I don't."
"You literally do."
"I literally don't." "You literally just--"
"I appreciate observations."
Edgar snorted loudly.
Unfortunately--
Paul had somehow wandered over as well.
"What're we talking about?"
Alan instantly responded without hesitation.
"Sam apparently thinks Dwayne has nice arms."
Sam's soul departed again.
Paul looked between Sam and Dwayne, his grin stretching impossibly wide. "Oh."
"No."
"Ohhhhh."
"Paul."
"OHHHHH."
"PAUL."
"What?"
David drawled from the fire. Paul happily responded without giving him the courtesy of looking at him.
"Sam has a crush on Dwayne!"
A heavy, uncomfortable silence fell over the group.
Sam stopped breathing, all eyes were on him- even Dwayne's.
Sam considered walking straight into the ocean.
Michael was the first one to laugh, not unkindly, only because he was an older brother used to waiting for the right moment to say something like this.
"Oh my God."
Sam glared, pointing an accusing finger. "Don't."
Michael was already doubled over, laughing far too hard. He wiped at his eyes.
"I wondered when someone would say something."
"…WHAT?"
Lucy blinked in confusion. "…Honey?"
Michael sniffed loudly. "He talks about Dwayne constantly."
"I do not!"
"You absolutely do."
"I DO NOT."
Star smiled softly into her drink.
"…You kind of do."
Traitor
Even Marko nodded.
"I thought everyone knew."
Sam's eye twitched.
"…Everyone?"
Paul looked genuinely surprised.
"…Wait.
You thought this was a secret?"
David lounged against a log with the most infuriating grin on his face.
"I've known for six months."
Sam stared.
"…Six--"
"You stare every time he takes his shirt off."
"I DO NOT."
"You walked into a tree."
"…That was one time." Sam replied, cheeks now rosy with blush an d slight shame.
"It was three."
Even Lucy looked thoughtful. "…Oh."
"Oh?" Sam squeaked.
"…That explains why you've suddenly started asking me if your hair looks okay before we come here."
Michael gasped dramatically. "Mom."
"Yes?"
"He's blushing."
"I AM NOT."
He obviously was. Sam finally had the courage to glance over at Dwayne, who looked mostly confused.
"…You have a crush on me?"
Sam wished fervently and immediately for spontaneous combustion. "…Maybe."
"…Little bit, please don't make this weird."
Dwayne blinked once, twice, then rubbed the back of his neck.
"I…"
His voice was soft.
"…I didn't know."
"Clearly."
"I--"
"It's okay."
Sam made a strange noise in his throat, forcing a laugh. "It's really okay,
It doesn't have to be weird- I wasn't expecting anything."
The smile he gave was small, a little embarassed, but honest.
"I just…"
He shrugged.
"…thought you were really cool, and really pretty."
Paul made the single loudest gasp in human history.
"DID HE JUST CALL DWAYNE PRETTY?"
"PAUL."
Dwayne looked
unexpectedly flustered.
"…Pretty?"
Sam instantly regretted every sin he'd ever committed in existence.
"I am begging everyone here to let me drown."
To everyone's surprise…
Dwayne smiled, albeit a little awkwardly.
"…Thanks."
Sam looked up at him.
"I mean…"
Dwayne shrugged.
"No one's ever really…"
He looked down at the sand.
"…Called me that before."
"…So, thanks."
Sam's heart broke and mended at the same time.
The awkward silence was thankfully shattered after about 4 seconds when David decided to have his say.
"So."
Everyone groaned.
David grinned.
"You've been checking out his arms this whole time?"
"David."
"The hair too."
"David."
"The boots were my favourite part."
"David !"
Everyone laughed around the fire, even Dwayne giving a small, quiet chuckle. Sam buried his face in Michael's shoulder. "I am never coming back."
Michael gave him an arm around the shoulder, barely able to keep a straight face.
"Sure you aren't."
"I'll move."
"You don't have money."
"I'll figure it out."
"You got caught because you complimented someone's sleeves."
"I hate this family."
Lucy smiled warmly.
"No you don't."
"…No."
He sighed dramatically. "I really don't."
Across the fire, Dwayne caught Sam's eye briefly. He smiled again, gently this time, almost apologetic. Not the smile Sam secretly wanted to hear, but not one that made him feel embarassed either. It was the smile of someone who said I'm glad you told me, and I still want you around.
And for now that was enough.

Author's Note: kinda chud but I hope you enjoy!
Okay but really how much would the Emersons lives have changed if they joined that vampire family? Like really? How much different, really?
As fun as the Frog brother’s TV show would be. I want to see what happened to Grampa Emerson while he was a vampire hunter that made him look at Max and his boys and was like Nah I’m good with them being in town I think I just won’t go there.
