Voltron WAS queer baiting

Here’s my hot take on this situation. Now, I am not sending hate to any of the creators or writers of the show. I am simply stating fact, which is my opinion , on this matter. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I know that.

So, here is why there WAS NO representation in Voltron, and why what Voltron did WAS queer baiting :

If someone , who didn’t follow any of the va’s or Voltrons sm accounts , and just went straight into watching the season, THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN HE (Shiro) WAS GAY. There was no clear indication that he was. The audience had to go off of prior knowledge, not watching the show and learning that Shiro is lgbt.

This is what really makes me mad. Voltron had the fucking audacity to make a character LGBT (by deadass just saying it) and then KEEPING ANY INDICATION that said character is in fact LGBT, which only points to this “reveal” as nothing more than a marketing stunt.

Voltron knows that the age group who watches Voltron (gen z and millenials) are desperate for valid LGBT representation in media. Over the past few years, we have gotten some representation (aka STEVEN UNIVERSE ) but have not seen enough. Making characters LGBT and showing it is another step into teaching kids and society that being LGBT is just a part of life, and isn’t something to be viewed negatively.

Now, I’m not saying that Voltron made LGBT appear negatively in their show, I’m saying that their empty promises of an LGBT character are not helping this case. I’m also not saying that by Voltron queer baiting the entire entertainment industry will never use LGBT characters again, (or anything of the sort).

I’m saying that what Voltron did, which was use a sexuality as a marketing campaign, a sexuality which has been shit on since the beginning of civilization, is horribly wrong and just shitty in nature.

When will companies learn sexuality or gender expression isn’t something to be exploited ? If you say you will give us representation, then give us fucking representation. Not some marketing campaign to increase views

Yes Karen, it is all in my head, that’s where my chemical imbalance is. Because mental illness is an *illness*. It’s the same thing as having kidney issues except it’s in the brain, therefore no, you cannot cure it by just ‘’thinking positive’’ because it’s a physical illness. You don’t ask someone with a broken leg to run, do you ?
