'Car theft,' Buffy said wearily. 'Giles left that out of Slayer training.'

'Not to worry,' Angel reassured her. 'It's been a while, but I think I can handle it.'

Oz shook his head in amazement. 'Yeah. Just like riding a bike. Is there anything you haven't done?'

Angel glanced up at the rearview mirror. Apparently, he was looking at Oz, but it was hard to tell because, of course, Angel wasn't visible in the mirror.

'Not a hell of a lot.'"

Angel and Buffy both stealing.

Inspired by a post I saw years ago, where someone pointed out how Buffy, Dawn, and Spike had all been thieves at different times (Buffy accidentally mentions she shop-lifted that lip gloss when she's Called by Merrick, Dawn was stealing in season six, and Spike is of course a thief).

But here we see that Angel has, of course, also stolen before (kind of hard to be a vampire and not do so, I'd imagine). And this is Buffy in S8, stealing jewels in order to fund the Slayer army, so to speak. I actually hated that plot line, as did others. This also isn't my favorite post of mine at all, but whatever.

Also, another mention that "The Gatekeeper Trilogy," that the excerpt with Angel is from, is amazing.

The Gatekeeper Trilogy: Ghost Roads

Drusilla and Spike wanting to change children and somewhat be parents that way twice. Heck, Drusilla did do so in "One Thing Or Your Mother," but as Spike says, she sort of gave up on the idea when Callie became difficult and then Spike was the one there for her (even though he was kind of against the idea at first). But then Angelus kills her. Though there's a bit more to the story than that.

Also, I'm too lazy to find where Dru also clearly wanted to change Jacques--because Ghost Roads is a VERY long book with a ton of PoV shifts and stuff--but you can kind of see it even in just the one scene I posted there.

One of my favorite parts of "The Gatekeeper Trilogy" (Buffy the Vampire Slayer tie-in books) is this part for some reason:

Angel, Willow, Cordelia, and Xander are, like, in the water with what they think is the Kraken. And for good reason, they all think they're about to die for this reason, and are having their last moments, saying their prayers, and that kind of thing (Angel says Buffy's name).

But then they begin to realize that maybe it's not the Kraken, maybe it's some other kind of sea creature.

Xander to Angel: You're Scottish. Is that what I think it is?

Angel: Irish. And, yes. The Loch Ness Monster.

And as an aside, I just love how Xander automatically (wrongfully) thinking Angel is Scottish means that he'll be able to identify the Loch Ness Monster any better than the rest of them.

Cordelia, calming down now, and almost excitably, "Oh! Nessie!"

And I also find it funny that in now knowing it's the Loch Ness Monster and not the Kraken, none of them are panicking anymore, because they just for whatever reason assume it won't attack them?

And it actually does end up working out for them. But I don't know if I would have made that bet. LOL

The whole scene is a pretty great moment with these Scoobies, imo.

I also appreciate Angel being very protective of Willow in this scene, because Oz is a werewolf at the moment and locked in the Gatehouse and so he can't be with her. And Buffy's not there (in another state even, I think, taking care of business there: this series has the Scoobies running all over the place, in order to try and combat the threat), and so asked him to look out for her. Oz probably did too, IIRC, in knowing he was about to turn.

Edit: Oh. The Gatekeeper Trilogy takes place during season three, for anyone wondering.

I love Angel's journey with Les Misérables in the Buffy books.

First thinking that he's going to read it at the end of "Portal Through Time," after everyone wonders if Tess of the D'Urbervilles was depressing enough for him.

Angel actually reading Les Mis (in the original French, of course. IIRC).

Angel mentioning after having read Les Mis, how some vampires wondered if Victor Hugo had been a vampire, because his knowledge of the Paris sewer system had almost seemed too accurate. But Angel doesn't think that Hugo was a vampire.

And then this even all kind of ties into AtS, when after losing Fred to Illyria--and trying to cheer up some--Angel wants to go see a show, and mentions to Spike that he's never seen Les Mis. But Spike says that going to see it would be a bad idea, because "Half-way through the first act, you'd be drinking humans again."

Micaela! Micaela! Micaela! Micaela! Micaela! Micaela!

I know I'm going to be the only one in the world who cares about this--and even knows who she is and gets the significance of it all, in having read such a large number of the Buffy tie-in books at this point--but ahh!

The Gatekeeper Trilogy is just the gift that keeps on giving, isn't it? It's not enough that after that trilogy was written, like, all the tie-in books pretty much started using the lore it introduced in them in their own books. But now we even have Micaela from The Gatekeeper Trilogy in one of the Classic Buffy comics? I can't even!:D

Edit: And here's some Micaela stuff from the books (though not the aforementioned Gatekeeper Trilogy--because I can't find one of the books right now--but rather "The Dark Congress.")

So, I was going to put two different scenes from two of the different tie-in books in this post--of where Buffy's friends are being pretty hard on Buffy and her Slaying, and Angel's there for her--but since Tumblr has a 10 picture post limit, there's not enough room. So there will have to be a part 1 post and a part 2. Obviously this is part 1.

When I first read this, I was so very mad at Xander. But now that I've read it again, I definitely see his side.

And eventually, the two of them do make up, of course.
