Seanan McGuire // Ghost Roads // Rose Marshall // The Phantom Prom Date
Just read "What We Forgive, What We Forget" by Seanan McGuire and. Eventually, when I have time for it, I will be rereading Ghost Roads like this:
No seriously I will be taking NOTES I will be making a TIMELINE
Unfortunately life is very busy right now so I won't get the chance for a while but I'm going to do it I swear. Also I still need to read the most recent book of Incryptid. I probably want written copies of the book for that also (I listened to them as audiobooks) and my local library doesn't have Ghostroads although it does have Incryptid
Also friendly reminder that you can read "What We Forgive, What We Forget" and dozens of other short stories just by giving Seanan McGuire one (1) dollar on Patreon
"Angel put the car in gear and they were mobile again.
'This is all right for now, but we're going to need a truck or van, so Angel doesn't get toasted,' Oz pointed out. 'Plus, if we're supposed to be Americans, it should be a pretty obvious rental vehicle.'
'Car theft,' Buffy said wearily. 'Giles left that out of Slayer training.'
'Not to worry,' Angel reassured her. 'It's been a while, but I think I can handle it.'
Oz shook his head in amazement. 'Yeah. Just like riding a bike. Is there anything you haven't done?'
Angel glanced up at the rearview mirror. Apparently, he was looking at Oz, but it was hard to tell because, of course, Angel wasn't visible in the mirror.
'Not a hell of a lot.'"
...
Angel and Buffy both stealing.
Inspired by a post I saw years ago, where someone pointed out how Buffy, Dawn, and Spike had all been thieves at different times (Buffy accidentally mentions she shop-lifted that lip gloss when she's Called by Merrick, Dawn was stealing in season six, and Spike is of course a thief).
But here we see that Angel has, of course, also stolen before (kind of hard to be a vampire and not do so, I'd imagine). And this is Buffy in S8, stealing jewels in order to fund the Slayer army, so to speak. I actually hated that plot line, as did others. This also isn't my favorite post of mine at all, but whatever.
Also, another mention that "The Gatekeeper Trilogy," that the excerpt with Angel is from, is amazing.

Summary: Set in the future where Jin Ling grows to be the Chief Cultivator. He deals with that responsibility better than he deals with his feelings for Sizhui, at least.

Traveling overgrown Ghost Roads with my beloved boy.
She was standing in the shadows, neon highlights in her hair,
And I almost walked right by her, never knowing she was there.
She was laughing as she said, 'Hey, Mister, help a girl in need?'
And I don't know why she chose me, nor the reason I agreed.
Based on the Ghost Roads series by Seanan McGuire.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Seanan McGuire perfectly understands how to write a pay off that’s both emotionally and narratively satisfying
She doesn't look back. Routewitches very rarely do. They learned their lessons from Orpheus. When you look back, you lose your heart's desire.
