El sonido pequeño y naif de Small Hours, otra de las bandas en las que tocó Iain Shedden, entre The Jolt y The Saints, efectivamente la más mod-esta y humilde de las tres. En algún sitio leí que Paul Weller consideraba a Merton Parkas “la pequeña banda mod”, en referencia a su ligero sonido. En el caso de Small Hours cabe decir lo mismo, sonido pop escueto puntuado por leve organillo. De este tipo - con chica jugueteando al órgano- ha habido muchos grupos, siendo con toda probabilidad Makin´ Time los mejores de todos ellos por sonido y por canciones. Arriba, “Business In Town” del estupendo recopilatorio de revival “Unsung Heroes: The Phase II Mod Collection”. Gustan pero no matan.

Favoritos de Stewart Home, The Jolt fue un power pop trio escocés con un LP para Polydor en 1978 y varios singles. Duraron poco, pero el escaso y apreciable material que dejaron se anticipó a la new wave y en cierto modo con The Jam, y el estreno de la película “Quadrophenia”, sirvieron de acicate para el inminente revival mod de 1979. El grupo lo componían Robbie Collins (guitarra,voz), Jim Doak (bajo,voz) e Iain Shedden (batería). A la separación de los efímeros The Jolt, Shedden pasaría a tocar con Small Hours y acto seguido con Chris Bailey y unos remozados The Saints.
