this was pretty cool and the monsters kinda reminded me of hunters from the resident evil games

among the things i dislike about the current (by which i mean mostly 6.x to now) writing is the like unwillingness to have characters butt heads or have different goals or be driven by competing wants/needs/desires etc beyond like superficial levels. which is an incredibly vague statement and its not like our protags were ever very likely to butt heads tooooo much. but like i think broadly speaking you can see the difference between like. ARR-SHB character writing vs now (im excluding EW bc its position as the finale of a major arc is a little too unique to make direct comparisons).
like okay i was rewatching some scenes from shb patches specifically the ones where you have the estinien solo duty and when it came to the part where he gets asked to stay and help for a little longer and refuses (at the time - he comes back later on obvs) to go do his own thing. extremely super minor example of the thing im meaning but i guess my point is that i feel like a similar scene in DT would play out in a way where there was no refusal and estinien would only have left after a scene where everyone blandly agrees that everything that can be done has been done and everyone like sounds off around a circle about it. aside from how it kinda saps individuality from characters, its just boring to watch after a while. and like this is not really a complaint that DT alone brought up I've been wishing for more serious conflict between characters in xiv for years now but it is probably the most egregious its ever been in this regard
