A delightful surprise.

Last evening I asked for your new music recommendations, and the ‘Finch over at @purplebullfinch sent this suggestion over. I am happy he did.

I know nothing about The Lostines, which is probably for the best. But I know this music would sound at home on my AM radio back in 1962.

I get a slight Lesley Gore feeling from some songs and if you told me another number was recorded in Clovis in 1959 I’d believe you.

This is good music that doesn’t need a label. I’ll return to this recording again.

I love this kind of music. It’s what has drawn me to Squirrel Flower, Molly Drake, Totally Mild, and Elvis Presley. And if I’m being honest, I came to this after listening to the amazing “Early Dolly” collection that just showed up on Bandcamp and is due for a mid-July release.

Yes, this all has a “country” feel, but the field is wide-open. The Lostines are from the South (recorded in New Orleans, released on Tape Dad, a label based in Fayetteville, Arkansas).

I'm deciding that I'm gonna start using this blog just to share my music tastes bc anything else just hasn't happened.

Love this song, first heard the Lostines on Heart of Night, an EP they did with Nick Shoulders and have been a big fan since. Was super hyped when Meet the Lostines came out last a couple years ago as their first album release. Hoping to see them in person someday.
