its oddly quiet. it isn’t usually like this. you hear no birds singing. nor the run of the creek. but there’s a thunder in the distance. and you swear you hear screams.

[ the world is loud now. something has awoken- something that was resting just beneath the surface. and it is angry. it’s anger is needed, perhaps. worry not, dear friend. the moss is with you. but it is listening. it is time to listen.

encountering the lurcher -

• ignore the voices and noises at all costs.

• the gleeful giggling of a child, the sobbing of a stranger, the terrified screams of someone familiar - IGNORE THEM. they are not what they seem and it is too dangerous to check.

• do not try to hide in the gas station.

• hurry to your vehicle instead. get in. lock the doors. ignore the pleas for help coming from behind the gas station. drive away if the vehicle starts.

• if it fails to start, try to keep calm. do not panic.

• ignore the sound of metal dragging against the concrete. ignore the baby’s whining. ignore the scratching at the window. ignore the eyes peering through.

• do not look at it. keep your head down.

• it cannot get inside as long as you pay it no mind. it will eventually give up. wait for the noises to stop. wait for a while after that.

• start your vehicle. leave.
