feel like the Overton Window between “there’s no point in ever trying to do anything to improve yourself/your life, just stay hydrated and self-care (not that it’ll actually make you feel better) uwu” and “clean your room, climb those dominance hierarchies, constant striving alone gives life meaning and you are worthless unless you are the Alpha” is narrowing rapidly but the actual social divide isn’t even between those approaches as nonspecific ideals, because no-one can live 100% either of those ways, and also because there’s a political compass quadrant thing going on between that binary and objective (impersonal) vs. social (interpersonal) forms of validation going on too.  so the most positions aligned with the major Millennial subcultural/political tribes are like, “people who are casually performatively depressed and always online and work a bare minimum on anything actually meaningful to them but expect/demand/give constant social validation and look down on anyone who doesn’t/can’t maintain tons of basically codependent relationships contingent on ideological fashion and petty bullshit” vs “NEET “aristocrats of the soul” who work out constantly because of BAP, collect nerdlore to prove their right to have hobbies, or swear by snobby fashion tips from /fa/ and music tips from /mu/ and read charts on what exact order to teach yourself the Western Canon, insist on the objective reality of numbered attractiveness hierarchies, but are still incel and do nothing about their social anxiety because they tell themselves they’re above the plebs”.  obviously both of these are historically gender coded, and both represent a total intensification of social labor-demand and reduction of agency via elimination of counterbalances to the ruthless minmaxing of the historical models (“housewife/Mean Girl striving” vs “skilled laborer/warrior/capitalist striving”, except only statistically correlated to gender)
