Gig #2 of 2014: Feral Kizzy & Dawn of Sequins

For my second show of 2014 I saw Feral Kizzy and Dawn of Sequins at Pehrspace in Echo Park last night ( January3rd ). 

Feral Kizzy were in top form as they slew a packed house at Pehrspace. People were a little reluctant to dance but that didn't stop Kizzy Kirk and band from burning through their entire set. As I've seen them from show to show they've only become more finely honed as a group. 

Dawn of Sequins is one of two recent projects from Eli and Mary Chartkoff of beloved LA scene stalwarts The Monolators. Their songs as Dawn of Sequins  take the same catchy quirky garage-pop aesthetic and reapplies to synth and programmed beats. They're still as fun to see live as they have ever been. They'll be performing at Pehrspace the first Friday of every month this year as an extended residency.

Note: I am hoping to better document the live shows I attend and make these posts a bit more frequent, the goal being to cover every single show I attend this year. Let's see what happens.

The Monolators celebrated their 10th Anniversary as a band this past Saturday, September 22nd at Pehrspace in Echo Park. They are one of the most beloved and supportive bands playing in Los Angeles today. Despite all their line-up changes the band has always been husband and wife duo Eli & Mary Chartkoff. Their songwriting has a touching earnestness that is so seldomly seen that it can break your heart. This performance of their fan-favorite song "Let's Be Best Friends In Space" was shot back in 2007 at a rare acoustic performance by them at a Toys For Tots benefit in Redondo Beach, California.
