BEING GAY IS NOT A SIN
One of the things I loathe about the official Church rhetoric is its exclusion of gay people. Nowhere in the Bible does it say homosexuality is a sin. I'm going to break down a few simple things here:
A) Jesus taught us how he fulfilled the Law in Luke 10:27- "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself."
Christians forget that they follow Christ and not Mosaic Law. Jesus sums that up nicely so I don't feel I should have to dig into the Jewish tradition based on that scriptural fact but since I know that certain elements are a little hard headed on this I'll clear up the misconception of what Jewish law actually says as well.
B) Mosaic Law doesn't actually condemn homosexuality, it speaks against pederasty. In Leviticus 20:13 it states "If a man lays with a male as with a woman, they have committed an abomination." Note the use of the word male. The original Hebrew text uses the word zachar, which is not man(ish) and used to denote young boys.
When sexual immorality between a man and woman comes up it is always an adult male and an adult female. The context here does not match that pattern. Don't worry, the same word, zachar, is also used in Leviticus 18:22 where it states "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman."
They draw the line at Athenian boy fucking, not homosexuality. Sorry Greece they'd still throw the Symposium in the trash. Y'all know y'all are wrong. Anyways...
Maybe if the hate mongers in religious circles spent more time reading the book they wave at homosexuals they'd uncover this little gem:
"I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you should also love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
