Joe Patrick, The Pack Rat, does a deep dive on Power Pop - its sources, influences, trends, tendencies, and revivals!
Summary: All over Gotham, stand up comedians are losing their minds and committing crimes. From The Condiment King (A man who shoots Ketchup and Mustard guns), to The Pack Rat (A machine gun toting villain in a rat suit), Batman and Robin have their night full. But who’s responsible for this rise in crappy criminals? The same man who just wants to put a smile on every face in Gotham, the self proclaimed funniest man you’ll ever know...The Joker!
Favourite Moment: The Pack-Rat sequence is great, and makes me wonder how the actual populace would react if there was a criminal like this who existed in real life. He would be a daily nuisance for some people; You’d see him walking up and be like “Oh, here comes the pocket lint thief”. It honestly a character that I would love to see a full comic arch about. I want to get into this guy’s mind, see how far he’s willing to go for a freaking gum wrapper, you know? If written well, that could be interesting.
Character Conundrum: This episode shows The Joker using The Mad Hatter’s technology to his advantage; He will later use it once again in a fight with the Justice League, and then again in his final fight between Bruce Wayne.
NananananBATFACT!: The comic persona that The Joker disguises himself as to participate and win Gotham’s Laugh-Off is similar to the depiction of The Joker’s origin in “The Killing Joke” comic. There, The Joker starts out as a failing comedian who takes a job with a bunch of criminals as “The Red Hood” and during the job he falls into a vat of chemicals which turn him into The Joker we all know and love..
Bat-Continuity: Despite the fact that the Riddler is in Prison, Wacko Toys are still using his image to sell their goodies on TV!
