THE PARALLELS BETWEEN BILLY TAUPE AND LENORE DOVE

I love Lenore Dove, she is one of my favourite characters from sotr, but is no one going to talk about the symbolism of Lenore Dove having Billy Taupe’s Accordion, and the parallels between the two characters.

Both characters were rebellious troublemakers, and people who Clerk Carmine deeply cared about.

A big difference between the two is their love for their partners.

Their parallels continue as they both got their partners (Lucy Gray and Haymitch) forced to compete in the hunger games. However, Billy Taupe causes Lucy Gray’s reaping by his own selfishness, in that he wanted to have both Mayfair and Lucy Gray, causing Mayfair to get her father call out her name, while Lenore Dove causes Haymitch being chosen due to her caring and wilful nature, in that she tried to help a grieving mother get her son’s body back, resulting in Haymitch protecting her from a peacekeeper and getting sent as a replacement.

While both are narratively similar characters, they are both incredibly different intrinsically.

Which are mirrored by their relationships, with Billy Taupe betraying Lucy Gray for Mayfair, and Lenore Dove and Haymitch being head over heels in love with each other.

Both Lucy Gray and Haymitch were chosen for the games by a malicious force, but Haymitch went in the games for love, while Lucy Gray’s end was marked by a man’s selfishness.
