Tiny art dump because why not . . .
Had the glooms when it was raining the other week and so decided to make this eyesore of a page. It hurts to look at IRL, and it makes me so happy to see so much of my favourite colour in one place.
My dear Drag Path . . .
This is technically a redraw of an older piece of BNHA fanart, and I'm both pleased with it and frustrated with it. XD
A smol Batty Penderwick.
I didn't realize until my recent re-read of N!OBE that these two scenes were probably supposed to be parallels.
No matter how many times I draw this scene, I never seem to quite get what's in my head onto the paper. This is closer than last time, at least.
It always takes me a bit of a while to get into the groove enough to draw characters "on-model" compared to what's in my head, but we're getting close (Tink on the top, Janner on the bottom).
As always, please don't use my art without my permission.

Laughter is the best medicine -some person, idk who said that
I finally caved and read the last two penderwicks books, and we all agree they aren't canon, right?
i'm rereading the penderwicks and you know what i don't get? if mrs. tifton hated dogs, why did she rent a cottage with a goddamn dog pen?
there’s maybe 1 person and a dust bunny who will understand this. but. penderwicksposting… skye is aroace. ben is gay. you agree
WHAT NICHE BOOKS SHAPED YOU PLEASE AND THANK YOU
- neurodivergent child shaped by niche books growing up
Wow I’m so glad you asked!!
There’s so many I could list because I read a TON and we also listened to lots of audiobooks in the car, but here’s a few of the most influential ones:
OBVIOUSLY Ella Enchanted had to be top of the list, you know this about me. It’s not particularly niche but I basically had it memorized so it couldn’t not be here. However, its slightly lesser known companion, Fairest, is almost as well-loved on my shelf. It’s a Snow White retelling, and the main character is Areida’s older sister
Another obvious one since I was just talking about is The Mysterious Benedict Society. I texted my family half asleep at 1:30am last night with the realization that those books are probably to blame for my love of escape rooms. Solving puzzles and finding tools to escape a (pretend) high-stakes situation?? If I was aware they existed at the height of my obsession, I would’ve been so obnoxious begging my parents to take me to one
Another series I read to the point of falling apart (that I replaced recently!!) is The Penderwicks. Loosely based on Little Women, 4 girls and their father running wild in Massachusetts. My mom and I listened to the second book on audio thinking it was a standalone, and were ecstatic to learn that it was a series. There was a time when I read exclusively these books over and over for months. This is also the series I managed to pass down to my 12-yo brother, not quite sure why it caught his interest but I’m sure not mad about it
Everyone knows The Hunger Games, but I was suuuuper into her first series, the Underland Chronicles. 11yo boy and his mother accidentally find their way down to an underground world with giant rats, bats, roaches, and people with pale, translucent skin. Lots of commentary on war and colonization and all the stuff you’d expect from Suzanne Collins. I should reread these soon
Not sure if anyone else read these but there was a series called Friday Barnes, about a girl who’s super smart and analytical and ends up getting into a prestigious boarding school. The students are all super weird and quirky in the way rich kids tend to be, and there’s a whole bunch of mysteries and shady stuff going on. My library only ever had the first 3, so I never found out what happened with the rest of the series
Wendy Mass had a chokehold on me at like age 12. Loved many of her books, but The Candymakers (and its sequel), A Mango Shaped Space, and the Willow Falls series were my personal favorites
Last but CERTAINLY not least is the series I genuinely think about almost every day that literally nobody I’ve met has ever heard of: The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place. Orphan teen who grew up in a boarding school gets a job as a governess for a young rich couple, who recently found and took in three children who were raised by wolves. Featuring a Lemony Snicket-style narration, a great mystery plot, a love interest that would’ve made a fantastic butch lesbian, and just an all-around great time. This was another audiobook series we listened to, and my mom was just as invested in the series as my siblings and I. If I didn’t own the series and a few of the audiobooks, I would genuinely think I hallucinated these because I’ve literally never met anyone who’s heard of them. I knew sooo many kids who read all sorts of niche books but even they had no idea what I was talking about. Genuinely drives me insane how underrated the series is because they could have so much potential for middle grade (and older) readers
Like I said, there were many, but those are the ones that I think shaped my personality and interests the most
thinking about skye penderwick studying astrophysics in california……skye being away from her family for the first time. everyone so proud of her and so happy for her, thinking she’ll finally have the space to be who she is. skye finding that that space she dreamed of is maybe more lonely than she thought. her family doesn’t call much because they don’t want to bother her, only with the exception of ben, who needs skye’s advice on the science of his sci-fi film ideas (at first he went to iantha for this, but found her answers lacking excitement, as she’s bored of most action in movies. skye on the other hand is happy to hear about his space battles and explosions and stuff). skye never tells ben but sometimes it’s the highlight of her week.
but skye being so thrilled to study uninterrupted. staying up all night when she’s in the zone. i bet she gets adopted by multiple kind roomates over the years who sort of take her in like a stray cat, leaving food by her door when they learn her habits of working so long and forgetting to eat. i bet she meets friends who help her chill out. i bet she goes out just to end up in a drunken heated debate over dark matter theories or something nerdy like that with her academic rivals. she finds new things she loves: bands, fashion, maybe she tries out other pronouns. skye finding themself a little.
jeffery visits and they go to the symphony. i bet they play something by saint-saens and skye is actually kind of moved by it. they walk out and she grabs jeffery by the shoulders like, dude, i think i get it. why you’re obsessed with music. that made me feel something like i feel stargazing. jeffery grins and they hug and there’s so much love and it’s not the slightest bit romantic.
visiting home around christmas skye asks jane to cut their hair. jane is simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to mess it up. it ends in skye yelling JUST CUT IT OFF and it’s the middle of the night and it wakes everyone up. it looks terrible but iantha is able to patch it up a bit.
skye continues to tutor other students and becomes really well respected as a knowledgeable effective teacher. she has a good community.
maybe even including some european man. but they don’t get married lmao
