Prompts for Skye Penderwick Appreciation Week 2026
Theme: mentioned memories (AKA things that were briefly mentioned at one point or another in the books).
just finished listening to the penderwicks at point mouette audiobook again and i just can't get over how clearly skye and jeffrey were set up to be something,,, romantically?? not even just with all the marriage talk and the post-alec-reveal-scene by the ocean where she would NOT leave his side but i had almost forgotten about the entire jealousy thing that skye briefly had going on when jeffrey mentioned his musician cousin (2000s childhood/teen media's obsession with kids dating their cousins should be studied but anyway) ??? i just still can't see why jeanne birdsall would handcraft them for each other and present their bond so visibly different from e.g. jane & jeffrey's or even batty & jeffrey's like there was something so open and honest and emotional about skyeffrey's relationship especially in book 3 that none of the other pairings even came close to, just for them to feel like different people in spring & at last. like she really made it look like jeffrey was forcing himself onto skye against her will when she was so obviously crushing on him (in a confused, skye-esque, 12-year-old kid kinda way) in point mouette. idk i just wish they were treated differently (and i really really really don't like the concept of battyffrey)
Rules & Instructions
Must have something to do with the prompt
I have never heard a sadder sentence than “Skye had given up on magic the day she discovered long division”
there’s maybe 1 person and a dust bunny who will understand this. but. penderwicksposting… skye is aroace. ben is gay. you agree
thinking about skye penderwick studying astrophysics in california……skye being away from her family for the first time. everyone so proud of her and so happy for her, thinking she’ll finally have the space to be who she is. skye finding that that space she dreamed of is maybe more lonely than she thought. her family doesn’t call much because they don’t want to bother her, only with the exception of ben, who needs skye’s advice on the science of his sci-fi film ideas (at first he went to iantha for this, but found her answers lacking excitement, as she’s bored of most action in movies. skye on the other hand is happy to hear about his space battles and explosions and stuff). skye never tells ben but sometimes it’s the highlight of her week.
but skye being so thrilled to study uninterrupted. staying up all night when she’s in the zone. i bet she gets adopted by multiple kind roomates over the years who sort of take her in like a stray cat, leaving food by her door when they learn her habits of working so long and forgetting to eat. i bet she meets friends who help her chill out. i bet she goes out just to end up in a drunken heated debate over dark matter theories or something nerdy like that with her academic rivals. she finds new things she loves: bands, fashion, maybe she tries out other pronouns. skye finding themself a little.
jeffery visits and they go to the symphony. i bet they play something by saint-saens and skye is actually kind of moved by it. they walk out and she grabs jeffery by the shoulders like, dude, i think i get it. why you’re obsessed with music. that made me feel something like i feel stargazing. jeffery grins and they hug and there’s so much love and it’s not the slightest bit romantic.
visiting home around christmas skye asks jane to cut their hair. jane is simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to mess it up. it ends in skye yelling JUST CUT IT OFF and it’s the middle of the night and it wakes everyone up. it looks terrible but iantha is able to patch it up a bit.
skye continues to tutor other students and becomes really well respected as a knowledgeable effective teacher. she has a good community.
maybe even including some european man. but they don’t get married lmao
Don’t you miss being a kid in the summer? The Penderwick siblings sure know how to take advantage of the season, running around with a soccer ball and breaking expensive garden vases. The first book in this series by Jeanne Birdsall perfectly captures the simple joys, but also high-stakes drama, of summer vacation. Jino loved The Penderwicks as a kid, but didn’t even know there were four other books until after college! Victoria was excited to see all the Little Women parallels, which was a primary inspiration for these books (check out last week’s episode!). And Michael appreciated the way that each sister had their own rich inner worlds and philosophies on life mirrored in the prose. Tune in to hear our thoughts on generational conflicts, soccer player alter egos, and the most boy to ever boy.

Kiss Marry Kill:
Rafal Mistral
Skye Penderwick
Artemis Fowl
I think this must be the strangest ask I’ve ever gotten. It supersedes the old, that’s for certain. (You’ve dethroned the old strangest ask!) I was also stuck on it for a while because there are few “safe” options even available, and I can’t believe I’m actually going to answer this—
Kiss: Rafal
But perhaps the better option is Kill because he could kill me. I would consider Marry, but he’s unstable and I would feel too guilty if I had to commit war crimes for his love. However, I suppose he might appreciate my semi-recent Google search on “what happens if a person has their tongue cut off” enough to let me be.
Marry: Skye
I’m not attracted to girls, so we could get a divorce, and she canonically did not want to date anyone (including her would-be love interest) for the majority of the series. Thus, I think I would get out alive.
Kill: Artemis
Let’s face it: I would be killing Butler, not Artemis, and that’s assuming I could even fell Butler (difficulty level: near-impossible). Or, if it had to be just Artemis in combat, I’m quite sure we would just be taken to the hospital, unless it’s later chronologically and he has actually exercised. He is also ingenious enough to tamper with the universe/time in order to evade death, so maybe his death wouldn’t be final and I could trust that he would return and fix whatever reliant-upon-him scheme I messed up by killing him. I would love to outwit him, but I’m not sure I could.
