my favorite personal iteration of mohabbot is either 800 layers of slowburn where samira doesn't even catch feelings till Later and then realizes it too late when jack has been yearningpininglonging for her for a while and then she's like. well i can't do anything about it because my Career is way more important rn. so, she leaves without saying anything and also he's a damn good mentor and she's not about to risk that letter of recc. (i also enjoy the fic writers that make baran a mentor for her). then when they see each other maybe down the line with her being an attending now, then they might finally risk making prolonged sexually fueled eye contact.

samira confusing her admiration for him as a crush that sort of is one but more so in the 'wowowow he's an awesome doctor, i want to be him!! or.... be with him....?' but no, she just really appreciates his wisdom and his time and his patience with her. so, they're nothing more but mentor/mentee with maybe slight line blurring, but it never goes past anywhere.

i loved the take i saw of if they did become an Actual thing. they'd make each other worse. i need to find the post and reblog it but i am in so much agreement with that. they live at the hospital. he goes in for night shift. she either works it with him or swings doubles constantly. they're sharing case studies and doing experimental field medicine on patients, thriving in the trauma bay. it's freak4freak adjacent.

❝ i thought i heard a scottish accent. ❞ fionn's loitering around the er, today. he no longer has a reason to come here with work, now he's no longer a front line firefighter, but he's recognised by enough people all the same that nobody questions his presence. he's trying not to think about the fact that the last time a lot of these people saw him, he was lying in one of the trauma bays, dying. he's trying not to think about any of it—and yet he's still waiting to meet his sister in the ambulance bay, after his physiotherapy appointment upstairs, and not indoors. he needed some fresh air.

hospitals are harder than they used to be.

talking to the nurse — fionn trying desperately to remember @theresastargirl 's name — is a distraction, absolutely, but it's nice to hear an rare familiar accent all the same. ❝ i'm irish. don't let the accent fool you, it's a mess. horrifyingly, i think i sound more american by the day. fionn. my sister's one of the social workers here. ❞

❝ knock knock. ❞ it had been a bit of a quest in itself to find lana's office; fionn has only ever seen her in the er, when he's been at the hospital, but the benefit of a working day means he's in uniform. everyone's eager to help a firefighter, it seems—even if it is less an emergency, and more a wanting to say hi to your friend because the nature of shift work means sometimes you can live in the same building and not see each other for weeks. and that sucks.

he leans against the doorframe, now, two styrofoam cups of coffee in his hands. fionn holds one out to @lifeforms , his smile apologetic. as though that could ever be enough to cover the sins of hospital cuisine. ❝ it's from the cafeteria, so don't get excited, but i was hoping i could steal five minutes to hang out. one of my team's getting stitches downstairs, so we're stuck waiting around for a bit. ❞ at least getting a minor injury on a call where they were already in the hospital saves everyone a lot of faffing about. the emergency room is right there.

❝ fuck, ❞ mutters fionn eloquently, sitting down in the open boot of his car and rubbing his face with his hand, room enough next to him for @growpained to sit, should he like. christ, but he's tired. tired, and in pain; it seems unfair to him, months after the fact, that when they cut off a limb too broken to be saved, they did not take the pain with it. instead they left him with a ghost, haunting the space that used to be an arm. he wishes, not for the first time, that he could take something stronger than ibuprofen to chase the pain away—and files the thought to be talked about at tomorrow's meeting.

it's been a day of firsts. first major fire investigation handed over to the police and ending with an arrest. first time watching a serial arsonist be picked up—even if his invitation to tag along was given on the proviso that he'd stand well back from the men with guns, with other civilians like abbot. he was glad to; he's incredibly uncomfortable around them. first time watching a large number of city resources slowly be stood down, the guy deciding not to set himself and half of swat on fire, and instead choosing going quietly over being shot. he watches the arsonist (suspected arsonist, he reckons he's meant to say) be driven away, listens to the officers chat about where to get a post-shift drink, gives a smile he only half-means to the fire crew as they head back to their station.

slowly, he shrugs out of the left sleeve of his jacket, turning his prosthetic arm off so he can remove it, setting it behind him in the boot to be joined by its sleeve. ❝ it always like this? ❞ he asks, finally massaging his aching residual limb with a groan. fionn's not even sure it helps. ❝ all...guns and shouting. ❞

santos' conversation with mckay was like. painful to watch. a mess. but it was so well written. it's so chewy.

she said LAST EPISODE that she felt her talents and abilities as a doctor were put into question on her first ever day on the job. she said that she feels ostracized by her peers. mckay calls her over for help with a patient because trinity is 'good with the weird ones.' trinity is going to say no, dennis gives her a little encouragement, trinity goes for it. in her head, this is her giving ground. in mckay's head, this is just what is expected of you when asked nicely for something. she goes over and solves the case within a few minutes. mckay sees this as impressive, santos sees this as what is expected of her when told to do something. if there's a problem with a patient, you solve it. mckay comes over and subtly praises her. santos essentially rejects it. all of last season, the messaging to her is 'you are too cocky,' 'you aren't experienced enough to have this much confidence,' 'when you are assured in yourself and your talents, you're unlikable.' when she asserted herself based on her own convictions about patient care last season, she was met with "are you aware you have an aggressive energy, trinity?" so, santos rejects the praise, and mckay tries to double down. then santos doubles down on the 'its nothing, our patients are stupid and its not hard and i'm not being bigheaded' strategy. unintentionally making mckay feel like she's being called stupid for not catching it. mckay goes wow. santos realizes she seems like an uncaring doctor, she goes 'but don't worry, i'm glad they're stupid! i love having job security.' like she is trying to save the conversation while also being true to herself while also not being egotistical while also trying to finish up her hours of unpaid post-shift work. but we've already gotten a 🦋 mckay will remember this 🦋 pop up in the upper lefthand corner and she has only dug herself deeper in this hole

the pitt friends! would you like a first responder in your life? fionn is a firefighter with pittsburgh bureau of fire, new to the city on an exchange programme from london, and could easily get to know any of the medical staff through bringing in patients that get injured on jobs.

additionally, fionn ends up in the emergency room himself; he is really badly injured on a job when a building collapses on him, brought in by his colleagues, develops sepsis, and ends up having to have his left arm amputated when attempts to save it fail. if he's already developed connections to the ER staff, and esp if there aren't any beds available upstairs, it makes sense that they'd be around for a large part of his initial stay, and/or just pop in to say hi.

I know we are all looking forward to Dr. Mel having the crash out next episode. And a lot has been said very fairly about her realizing that she was infantilizing Becca and her dealing with it. But I keep imaging the grief of that fall out. Even if there is catharsis. Even if it is healthier for her in the long run to stop thinking of herself only in terms of Becca's caretaker. Even if this is an important development that is ultimately good for her.Even holding all of that as true, the first thing I imagine she will feel is the overwhelming grief that comes when the understanding or parameters of a relationship with someone important changes.

This article by Devon Price called The Autistic Considers Impermanence was shared with me a while back and although it deals with romantic relationships, it resonated so much with my own struggles with change in friendships. The loss of the relationship you understood feels like the loss of a person. Its a grief that is heavy but also lonely because people around you cant understand it. There is no social model to process the grief of someone who is still in your life but is not the the same person in the context of your relationship with them.

Becca revalation means that Mel has to comfront her own attitutdes towards her yes. But it also means that she has to confront the grief of loosing the concept of the sister she had in her mind. And I'm afraid she'll have to deal it alone or be told that she is being selfish. (and if they delve into that, i'm sure more than a few fans will share that opinion).

This feels like an important aspect of autistic relationships that i've never seen representated anywhere else and I hope they can explore it. On the other hand I understand that this would not be a subject you want to bring up because it can't be resolved in a day and i dont see it being done properly unless its left unresolved for season 3. And that would hurt! At this point I don't know what I am hoping for and I am both dreading and looking forward to it.
