cannot stop thinking about alex krycek and how we dont really know him. hes just some random guy who is introduced as mulders temporary partner, and then we find out hes a spy working for the csm. we never really learn anything about him. the only snippets we have ever really gotten into his life were just "my parents were cold war immigrants" and "when you go underground you have to learn to live with the rats" but other than that?? we learn literally nothing about him. i want to know about kryceks life before he got recruited by the csm.
was he in training to be an fbi agent when he was recruited? or was he just a scared kid in a country he felt like a stranger in?? the home he knew and loved some place he could never really return to. going to school and learning a language that felt foreign on his tongue, translating for his parents and desperately trying to make them proud. are his parents even alive when we see him later in the show? did he leave them after he got recruited by the syndicate? or did something happen to his parents that led to him being recruited? "when you go underground, you have to learn to live with the rats." i can imagine krycek as a young boy, maybe 11-12 years old, finding his parents dead and not knowing what to do. packing a bag like he saw them do once before and just running. walking down alley ways late at night and trying to be strong for them. wielding a pocket knife his father used to carry everywhere and pretending his parents are "just in the car" when he walked into a gas station and left without paying for a single item. maybe the csm saw this kid on his own, saw how vulnerable he was, and took him in. at first, it was disguised as care, a new home with someone to look after him, but then the truth was revealed. simple self-defense classes and silly stories about aliens revealed to be training and a push of knowledge. what first started as a 13 year old boy distracting strangers at his fathers command turned to him holding a gun, pulling the trigger, running and running, and running. maybe somewhere along the way, he sees another kid get killed. he knows its a kill or be killed situation, and he has no choice. he has to survive because then what did his parents die for?? he has to survive for them. to live a life they never got. and he despises the csm, he hates the assignments, hes numb and tired, and he thinks the people he works for are pathetic revolutionaries, and yet he knows he cant do anything. the years pass, and he feels stuck, but then he meets mulder. and he knows he has to hurt mulder. assignments tasked to take down the x files, pretend to be a friend and then betray him, go to his house and kill his father, kill him kill him kill him. krycek knows he has to do these things, but he cant kill mulder. mulder is the only chance he has at escaping. at stopping the csm. mulder is all he even has, and he will do everything but kill him. and in the end, it doesnt even matter because krycek ends up dead. he dies before he got to live the life he wanted. i dunno im just rambling at this point, but there was so much potential for his character. he was one of the biggest threats while also being entirely useless, just another pawn in the game. his character only existed to further plot any way needed, and i just wish we got to know him a bit along the way. does he love cooking because it reminds him of the meals his mother used to cook for him? is that leather jacket he always wears similar to one his father had? what kind of sandwich does he order at the local deli? how does he like his coffee? theres so many things i wish we got to know.
