The Protocol

James Acton Thriller #1

by J. Robert Kennedy

I found this Canadian author's expropriation of Bobby Kennedy's name in order to get a leg up in the publishing industry off-putting.  (He has kept his own Christian name well-hidden.)  I almost didn't read him for that reason alone.

The book began with great promise—an archeology professor on a dig in Peru with some of his students uncovers a secret room in a cave—but it soon degenerated into nothing more than a string of murders committed by 'black ops' on the thin excuse that every one of them was on the 'President's Termination List'.  This was supposed to be a thriller, but it took the suspension of belief required for a fantasy in order to swallow Kennedy's action, and the plot vanished somewhere around the third chapter.

It's no mystery how Kennedy manages to pound out a book in two weeks.  This one was nothing more than a string of imaginative, thinly-excused murders.

Give it a pass.
