just rewatched the residence and when detective cupp says, "but don't you wanna hear how i figured it all out?" that's the exact opposite of bbc sherlock, when john says, "i don't care how you did it, i just want to know why."
i think that's why the residence is so delicious; it understands human relationships + how to show them on screen, and it cares about how the crime was solved. the show takes you through cordelia's process. everything she sees, you see. you even get bird facts!
where bbc sherlock wants you to think sherlock is smart when he solves a crime without showing you the solution, the residence wants to show you everything, and it wants you to understand. instead of saying "see? she's a genius, i swear!" it leaves you with one conclusion: "holy fuck. she's brilliant." and that's why i love it
