So for some reason, today I went and relistened to some of the songs that got me through middle school and being abused (read: all of the pre-2015 The Rubyz albums). They are... So Very Christian. I know that my sysmates who are still Christian loved the blast from the past (has it really been seven years since we finished middle school????) but I haaad to cringe. It's just so... Man. So I ended up looking up where these bandpeoples are now (how are they in their 30s??) and heard one talk about her faith. She said the age old "you witness to people by just existing with such peace that people can't help but question it" and that she knows there's a God because she talks to Him. This kind of made me sad; I guess I was expecting that one of the people I idolized as a child would have more things to say about her faith now? Never meet your idols ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also, it kind of angered me that Christians have this doctrine that only Christians have real peace and everyone else doesn't. When I was in the midst of my deconversion, friends who were Christian honestly thought I was Catholic 🤔 Why can't we just find peace and connect with ourselves in whatever way we wish without making it all about our religious subculture? *sighs* I still argue with my sysmates sometimes about why I'm a secular witch with those of us who are agnostic and atheist because of the religious trauma and those of us who are Christian.
