February 24th, 2003 - The day that defined Discovery Kids (sort of)
(This post was made on February 27, 2023)
On February 24th, 2003, there were 4 shows that premiered on Discovery Kids (the US version) - The Paz Show (a.k.a Paz the Penguin), Hi-5, Animal Jam, and my personal favorite, The Save-Ums!.
Sure, Discovery Kids was already popular prior to that day (what with the NBC block in 2002 and the Ready Set Learn block was launched 1992, 11 years before those shows premiered) and they wouldn't get recognition until November 1st of that same year (when Tutenstien and Kenny the Shark premiered), but I want to bring up the fact that despite these shows not being as well-known as the other DK shows, there were still apart of the of the lineup. The Save-Ums in particular was my favorite show growing up in the Discovery Kids era, though not to the extent of the Real Toons cartoons.
In short, this post is much less of a celebration of these 4 shows, but more of an overview on how these 4 shows existed on the channel and how they defined the channel for me. That's all I got, thank you for reading this.
