it's a million more little "oh." moments over the course of 7 years. it's all the "oh." moments that will continue to happen until the two of them stop dancing around this thing that's been brewing since the day they met. (x)

something that i think gets a little overlooked when talking about buddie and the shooting is how it establishes them and chris as a family in the most insane way. because as much as i love “you act like you’re expendable but you’re wrong”, technically buck was right in what he said.

like, if you take the situation at face value, yeah, it would have been objectively better for chris if his dad’s platonic bff who he’s not related to was shot instead of his dad (and only living parent). like as much as they love each other, that in theory, it’s not insane for buck to say that it would have been better for chris if he had been shot. he’d be sad, but he wouldn’t have lost his dad.

the fact that both the show and eddie make a point of saying “actually, no, the loss of either of us” is unhinged. like?? buck says “i’m not christopher’s dad” and eddie (and the show??) explicitly goes “incorrect!”

Can we just talk about how insane the will situation was for a minute?

Eddie waited an entire YEAR to tell Buck about the will.

As a firefighter, he could have died or been seriously injured literally any time. And if he had? Buck would have been given custody of Christopher with no warning whatsoever.

And while, no, he wouldn’t have refused it, he also wouldn’t have been prepared to fight to keep it. Because you can bet the Diaz vultures parents would have started fighting to get Chris before Eddie was even in the ground.

Buck wouldn't have had any time to grieve, any time to settle into his new role, or even any time to find out what he needed to do to keep Christopher before the kid was whisked away from him.

I would place money on the fact that season 8 Buck has some kind of paperwork or maybe a lawyer on standby as a just incase, because he probably did a deep-dive into custody related things when Eddie told him about the will.

But season 4 Buck wouldn't have even had that chance.

Eddie put Buck in his will as Christopher's guardian, because he knew that Buck would fight for Christopher.

But yet, he almost made it impossible for Buck to do so.

The most romantic thing they've ever done for Buddie is have Buck be standing there when Eddie got shot and I stand by that.

What is this if not a romantic shot

And this shot from Eddie's perspective too, the emphasis of, in whatever context, that "everything slows and only you and I exist" moment. They could have isolated Eddie in this experience. It would have fit perfectly fine with his emotional recovery. But they didn't. For Eddie, they made sure Buck was in it with him. To Eddie, he didn't experience this truly alone. When the world slowed down and everyone disappeared, Buck didn't.
