QUEER BAND ALERT!
I'm not one to do too many promos on this blog, but I've been so obsessed with this band recently that I just had to post something, if only to not selfishly hoard my golden find! (Plus, lesbians are involved so...)
The twins that make up The Skipperdees hail from the South's music factory: Athens, Georgia. They play beautiful, unique, folksy tunes, while still managing to be incredibly accessible to the less-folk-inclined amongst us.
The lyrics are gorgeously haunting. They've got a beautifully subtle queer sound (one twin is an out queer lady, while the other is [quote] "the gayest non-gay"). Check out "Lost Girls" for a song a lot of us can probably relate to. "The Plunge" is equally wonderful, and possibly my favorite song on their new album.
Are they folk's answer to Tegan and Sara? Maybe, maybe not, but hot damn they're hella talented and I can't stop listening!
Check out their new album Some Bright Mourning here:

I was never able to look you in the eye. Somebody called me brave somebody lied.

The Plunge- The Skipperdees
This is important, listen to it.
The Skipperdees (an athens band near and dear to this little blog's heart) are playing tomorrow night at The Melting Point @ 7:00 PM.
Support fantastic local music? Folk yeah.
{this cover} is also beautiful.
We've been compared to Emily Dickinson, so we're going whole-hog and devoting this shortest month to the saddest lonesome ballads. Should be fun, yeah?

I went to high school with these super awesome ladies! Everyone should check them out. :3
