THE AMERICANS ☭ (2013-2018) Season 1, Episode 1 : "Pilot"
My thoughts on The Slap in The Outsiders From what I could find, the average work day in the 60's was about 8 hours. Say work starts at 8:00 AM, ends at 4:00 PM. Darry has a second job as well, and the only reasonable thing I could find on it is book-keeping for the company he works for, so lets assume that adds another hour - it's now 5:00 PM. The book mentions that Darry goes to the gym, so lets add another 3 hours. It's 8:00 PM. Darry gets home, and lets assume Soda made dinner. Say Darry spends maybe 30 minutes going through bills, groceries, budgeting, etc - reasonable considering his personality and their situation. Once all of that's done he waits for his little brother to come home before going to bed. He and Sodapop wait, but 12:00 AM comes and goes.
Lets dive into Darry's brain for a moment. It is Darry's responsibility to ensure that his brothers are safe, happy, fed, etc, but the area they live in doesn't really allow that. Just yesterday Ponyboy had gotten jumped walking home. They don't live in a safe area, and knowing Dally, he probably would get the boys into trouble, not keep them out of it. So his brain starts turning. Did they get jumped by Socs? Were they in the wrong place at the wrong time? Did they get into an accident? If all three of them got severely hurt or split up, then no one would know to call Darry unless Pony, Johnny, and Dally were capable of telling someone their names, who to call, and the house number. Right as he's about to call the police, Ponyboy comes in saying he fell asleep. He didn't run into trouble, didn't stop to help someone. No, he paused in one spot for too long and fell asleep. If he had slept just a little longer, and Darry called the police only for Ponyboy to come in, arguments could've been made that Darry is an unfit guardian. That Darry had lost track of his brother, waited too long to call for help, didn't search for him, etc. Maybe they won't take away Soda, but they'd definitely take away Ponyboy. The system is corrupt and doesn't care about accidents and Darry knows that. reblogging with the rest of this since it wont let me add it all in one post

Angular, restless, and utterly gripping.
Chalk Circle brought a distinctive edge to the DC post-punk landscape.
“The Slap” captures their intensity — all tension, rhythm, and raw conviction.
