ZACHARY WHY ARE YOU STARING INTO MY SOUL
Spock expressions.
So I may have hinted that I had another addition to my crossover headcanon art, and here it is. I mean, I love both Spocks so much and so I had to show them interacting together. We all know how much TOS Spock values his tricorder, and I can see him shyly showing it to his younger self to comfort/welcome him, with science. And of course it works. I mean, AOS Spock has never seen a tricorder quite like this one and its all so fascinating he temporarily forgets how traumatizing time-travel is and how much he misses his Jim.
I actually put a lot of thought into what AOS Spock would wear, since my previous art showed that his own uniform was in pretty bad shape. I think eventually he’d probably wear the TOS science shirt but as he’s in a much more informal setting (probably TOS Spock’s quarters) he’s right now wearing just the short-sleeved black undershirt. He still has some injuries so I’m thinking he just got out of sickbay...
I worked on this drawing for a long time, partly because I was busy with real life, and also because AOS Spock’s beautiful eyes were so damn difficult to draw. His eyelashes are so thick and long that they were pretty much hiding his eyes so I had to erase and re-drew a ton of times. It was worth it though, because I think I finally got the right look. It was a creative challenge as well to convey the differences and similarities in the Spocks’ body-frames. They’re both quite slender but AOS Spock is a little more muscular and TOS Spock is more angular and bony -- he tends to hunch his shoulders inwards too sometimes, like he’s self-conscious. I also love how TOS Spock’s expression turned out the way I envisioned it. There’s curiosity, concern, shyness, and scientific interest... As a mentor to the younger Spock, he’s trying to make him feel as home as possible on a very different Enterprise. Also, he finally has another Vulcan to hang out with, and I really love the idea of the two Spocks becoming friends and helping each other through their shared self-esteem issues.
