Remember in season 1, Hopper was in the tunnels under Hawkins and that a-hole looking  thing in the walls spew the upside down gunk spores into his face and it was so awful he fainted? Then the vines came to grab him etc. 

In the same season Dustin gets a bunch of that shit into his face and just freaks the fuck out and screeches like a ferret that got stuck in a tumble drier just to then say “I’m okay.” (rest of the party going ughh ... ) 

In season 4 we have progressed to the gang cycling through the upside down and Steve caughing going “Ugh, I just inhaled a bunch of that shit.” Nothing else.

I’m not saying this is bad writing, I just want to speak to the manager.

prologue

Falconstar is taking a late night walk in the woods when fae finds a strange looking mushroom.

Thinking that if they didn’t eat it, fae would be fine, Falconstar sniffs it.

fae suddenly burst into a coughing fit as something- or perhaps the mushroom itself- releases a swarm of green spores.

There’s an urge to run away, far from the borders of any clan, to prevent spreading the spores.

But Falconstar had breathed in too much of the spores, and collaspes, their body not recovered even when joining their ancestors.
