Frankenstein was very theatrical, I liked it a lot. Casting Oscar Isaac as the insufferable, self-absorbed manchild was genius. Mia Goth as both Victor's mother and Elizabeth is an entire story unto herself. The creature (played by Jacob Elordi) is at once beautiful and echoes Victor's monstrousness in all it's deathless striving to become what it can never be.
I appreciated the bracketing of Victor's falsely heroic tragedy by that of the Danish captain and his ship, which ultimately avoided becoming a tragedy by him choosing to acknowledge/accept the reality of his situation and act accordingly, shouldering his responsibilities to his men.
Victor's death is the most pathetic thing, asking the creature (his child) to forgive him, without having done anything whatsoever to earn that forgiveness or change his ways. He is, ultimately, unwilling to face reality or take responsibility for himself and his actions. The creature giving him what he wants is effectively his creation saying: I see you. I understand that you will never grow or change. I release you (and myself) from the expectation. I understand that I am alone (that I was always alone).
‘cool’ being one of the best scenes in the whole movie and the choreo being absolutely *chef’s kiss* only for ans*l elg*rt to be given the song
