The Stiffs were part of the fertile punk scene in England in the 1970s and 1980s. While they certainly sound like The Jam and Squire, there's also a bit of The Skids in there too (and apparently John Peel had a huge thing for both The Stiffs and The Skids).
But, I can't help but wonder if bands like Soul Asylum or The Wildhearts listened to The Stiffs. I mean there's a definite anthemic feel to many of these songs on their newly released "Demos and Rarities" LP on Projectile Platters - a sub-label of Puke N Vomit Records
