Ive noticed confusion in some of my social media whenever I draw Sulker, so I made this to clear things up :D
Sulker is my Slender OC, he is Not Slenderman (think Splendor or Trender). Back when I joined the fandom it was common to have slenderbeing ocs, but Im assuming it isn't now?
I fully forgot to share this here when I finished it oups.
Happy 10 year anniversary of being made Sulker (a month or so late), which means a much needed updated reference.
Not much has changed, I feel I just polished some details and made it clearer to read, plus half the images are more of a drawing guide to myself so I can stop jumping between past drawings whenever I draw him and have some sort of consistency.
Biggest changes must be his clothes being a more blue gray color instead of brown, the black goo having a teal/green shine instead of white, the multiple pupils when mad/hungry, and glowing teeth of the same color as pupils.
I am currently writing a big document with everything explained, hoping the Slenderverse and Creepypasta fandoms still love reading long, detailed explanations. Meanwhile have a summarized version with the most important parts.
Sulker is a very old slender creature, it is unknown how he came to be and when, only that he has been around the earth for a very long time but not as long as the better known Slenderman.
A monster that prays on humans mental vulnerability, exploiting their weaknesses in his favor, lures them into surrendering themselves to him.
An insatiable hunger, enjoyment for others suffering, a voice you will only realize it’s not your own too late.
This is The Sulker.
Name: Sulker
Also known as: The Sulker, The Sulkerman.
Age: Unknown. First known written documents that mention his existence date back to 1346 during the beginning of the Black Plague.
Personality: Short tempered, volatile, irritable, sarcastic, smug, witty, cynical, has a dark sense of humor and enjoys the failures of others. A sadist, aggressive, with a short patience unless it involves “playing with his food”.
Easily frustrated and has an almost nonexistent fuse, but he can still tell when someone is just trying to get a reaction out of him.
He is in an almost constant state of hunger that drives him to be often looking to feed himself. Strong hunger puts him on edge, making it harder to deal with him.
Slender species related abilities: Sulker shares most of Slender's basic abilities, assuming these are common to the “species” with personal variations between individuals.
Slender walking
A form of teletransportation, he can move long distances in the blink of an eye.
Space distortion
Much like Slenderman, he can modify the space around a limited number of humans for a limited amount of time.
Video and picture distortion
Electronic devices can’t capture him correctly, his image will come out blurry, smudged, or similar to burnt film. This occurs with digital cameras and video, however, for unknown reasons film photos and film videos seem to capture his image better.
Change height and body shape
He can modify his height a couple of feet to make himself taller or shorter (while still out of the ordinary tall for human standards).
Proxys:
Like many other slenders, he can bestow supernatural traits to normal humans, which in return, ties them to him and his command. This can be voluntarily or against the person's will.
Abilities specific to Sulker:
Intrusive thoughts:
Sulker has the power to tune into a person's negative thoughts and emotions, and amplify these to unbearable levels. He however can not create negative thoughts, he can only get into their frequency, like a radio signal.
Just as Slenderman has his dreaded static, upon approaching Sulkerman, voices or whispers can be heard, the intensity fluctuating with Sulker's mood.
The Black Poison (Black goo):
He produces a thick, black substance that resembles a mix of oil and tar, with teal reflections. It is extremely sticky and frigid to the touch, and when it makes contact with the skin it will leave black stains that take days to remove fully, while it is almost impossible to successfully remove from clothes.
Sulker is immune to the stickiness, allowing him to manipulate the substance with no issues, and his clothes, although stained, seemed to not stick as one would expect.
The main source of the black poison is Sulker’s tentacles, but it can also be produced from his mouth and eye cavities.
Stickiness / Sticky webs
Directly tied to the Black Poison, Sulker can manipulate the substance to make traps and occasionally, resting points for himself.
The black goo is extremely sticky, able to hold an adult human stuck to a wall for an extended period of time.
Relationships: Sulker is not sociable at all, his meetings with other slenders are purely for “professional” and territory reasons, other than that, he is not one to seek the company of others.
Despite his temper, he has managed to keep a “polite” relationship with Slenderman, not because he likes him, but because he acknowledges his power and influence, plus the absurd amount of proxies and allies he has.
However, if the opportunity to overthrow the slender ever presents itself, he won’t hesitate to get rid of him.
It’s very easy to get on his bad side however, it’s possible, extremely hard but possible, to get on his good side.
Sulker sees humans as cattle and at best, pets, inferior creatures that now and then can be useful or at the very least, amusing.
Radio:
Sulker’s proxy and in charge of keeping other proxies updated on tasks and the slenderbeing whereabouts when instructed by Sulker. You can say he is Sulker's spokesperson since the slender being has no interest in communicating with his proxies unless really necessary.
Saw this song trend over tiking app, then another person suggesting author vs forgotten oc, one thing led to another and I'm liking this more than I expected. Good to see I haven't fully forgotten how to draw Sulker.
Edit: Forgot to add the song. “Hell’s comin’ with me” by Poor mans poison.
Viewer discretion advised: The following text has mentions of depression, intrusive thoughts, fictional death, and a monster that feeds on people.
I have a lot of information about Sulker, and I could go on and on about him, so I’ll likely make it into maybe two more digestible parts.
Unfortunately, I used to have this very bad habit of trusting my memory too much and not writing down all of my ideas, so some information is lost. But I’m cool with that, I want to make a couple changes in the future, cause there’s stuff I know I can do much better now that I’m older and that I don’t care if I’m cringe and get called out for making my character overpowered and stuff afsgdg.
Sulker origin was me wanting to try to make my own version of a “slender being”. For those not familiar with the Slenderverse fandom, a character of the same species as Slenderman (for example, Splendor or Trenderman, except not family related). My other goal when creating Sulker, was to have “someone to blame” for the negative and self destructive thoughts I had at the time, when I was at probably one of my lowest points in depression.
Thus Sulker was born...
Whom is The Sulkerman
This is the first thing I wrote about Sulker, which I think still works pretty well to this day to introduce him (I just took the liberty to fix all the writing errors I could find).
“Have you ever heard that voice when you are most vulnerable?
It sounds just like your own but not quite…
That one when you feel like hating everybody, it’s their fault, why can no one understand you?
When everyone is having fun but you, sitting on a corner, alone.
They are all so selfish.
Or maybe, maybe you are under the bed covers, crying to yourself, knowing no one is looking for you, no one cares about you.
Dumb, stupid people.
You are better than all of them.
You are too good for any of them.
…Or is it the opposite?
Oh, that makes more sense… that is why you are alone.
How about going out for a stroll? The garden looks pleasant tonight. You could also open the window, let the fresh air in.
Let me in.
I will accompany you.
Only I know how you feel.
I can make it better.
Come.
I’ll make it fade in a second.
I promise. It. Won’t. Hurt. A. Bit…~”
Short history about Sulker and his presumed origins (taken from his old bio)
He is a very old Slender creature, but probably not as old as the better known Slenderman. The first known written document that mentions the Sulkerman dates back to 1346, along the beginnings of the Black Plague or Black Death.
Roughly, it is spoken about a doctor that would appear during nighttime, at the sick ones doorstep, and would offer them a cure in exchange for their service.
The document describes him as an abnormally tall and thin figure, covered with a heavy, black leather tunic that hid his body from head to toe, a cape of the same material wrapped around his upper half down to the elbows and finally a wide brimmed hat that hid his features.
The cure is described as a charcoal black, sticky and dense substance, offered in a small glass vial. The ones that accepted his terms, recovered miraculously within hours of drinking the remedy, but most of them disappeared shortly or started acting suspicious before vanishing as well with no explanation.
With the centuries, Sulker discovered a sadistic pleasure in having his victims walk right to him to surrender instead of chasing them down. He learned to enter and poison fragile minds, intensifying all the negativity inside them, until the weakest ones follow the path straight to their doom, finding this self destruction more satisfying to witnes. Feeding this way, he became more powerful and sneaky, until becoming what he is today, a strong but shadowed creature that enjoys mind tricks and studying how much a mind can take before giving itself to the negativity inside everyone.
Brief personality and place in the slenderverse universe
Sulker has a short temper and is more than often in a bad mood, he is highly irritable, gets frustrated with ease and has a pretty much non existent fuse (this have earn him the nickname of “Moody” by some of his proxies, but it’s used behind his back and it’s very stupid to call him that to his face).
Sarcastic, witty, with a dark sense of humor and enjoyment in the failures of others.
He is constantly looking to feed himself, hunger puts him on edge, making it harder to deal with him.
It’s very easy to get on his bad side, however it’s possible, extremely hard but possible, to get on his good side.
He is not sociable at all, his meetings with other slenders purely for “professional” and territory reasons, other than that, he is not one to seek the company of others. Despite his temper, he has managed to keep a “polite” relationship with Slenderman, not because he likes him, but he acknowledges his power and influence, plus the absurd amount of proxies and allies he has.
However, if the opportunity to overthrow the slender presents itself, he wouldn’t hesitate to get rid of him.
Powers
The Intrusive thoughts.
Sulker has the power to tune into a person's negative thoughts and emotions, and amplify these to unbearable levels. He however can not create negative thoughts, he can only get into their frequency, like a radio signal.
If the person being targeted listens and believes these destructive inner thoughts, Sulker influence over them will grow alongside the intensity of the inner voices.
What the voices say depends on each person, everyone has different destructive thoughts and therefore can only hear their own. If for example, a group of people roams into Sulker’s territory, each of them will hear their own set of intrusive thoughts with different intensities and won’t be able to hear the other people's thoughts.
Just as Slenderman has his dreaded static, upon approaching Sulkerman, voices or whispers can be heard, the intensity fluctuating with Sulker's mood. When things are bad, really bad, the whispers can turn into a choir of screams.
If targeted by Sulker, one of the ways to save yourself is to ignore the negative thoughts and keep going and not hold to them. Distract your mind with a pleasant activity (read a book, play games, talk to friends, eat a good meal, etc). However, if Sulker is set on hunting a certain individual for some reason, this will effectively lower the voice's volume, but won’t stop Sulker from attacking.
“The black venom”
This is a natural ability he has, just as other slenders seem to have their own special powers.
Sulker is able to produce a black, sticky substance that most of the time covers his tentacles, but also drips from his mouth and eyes when open. This is often referred to as black goo, or black venom by his proxies and a couple others (now years later I realize it would probably be more correct to say poison instead of venom…).
The goo is produced by the consumption of humans plagued by negativity and destructive thoughts, and it grows in power the more Sulker eats. Hence, he is constantly looking to feed himself, the stronger the negativity, the more powerful he gets. In order to keep using the black substance he is constantly hungry and forced to satisfy it.
The black goo has several properties to it. In small doses it can cure any known disease, slow down the aging process, immunity to sickness, enhanced physical resistance and with time, practice, and higher doses, abilities that resemble the intrusive thoughts Sulker has.
The catch is that the consumption of the black goo makes the body highly dependable of it (do not confuse it with addiction, that’s not a symptom, the body if the consumer will start needing it just as it needs to drink water to survive).
I don’t think I ever explained much of what this black goo is or does aside being used as a weapon, it is very sticky to everyone but Sulker and allows him to glue his preys to almost any surface. It is also what he uses to keep control over his proxies by feeding it to them (I’ll go into detail in another chapter).
Closing notes
It’s unclear what Sulker's ultimate goal is. He doesn’t seem interested in growing an army of proxies like Slenderman seems to, nor does he fight regularly to extend his territory. He loves to be powerful, and he loves to satisfy his hunger, but his end goal remains a mystery.
