Here's a bit of information on Sylas and Jack's toxic ass relationship!
So to start with the uh....bigger issue between the two of them, Sylas.
When he is out in public he is really good at masking all of his various problems, and most people perceive Jack as being a close friend of someone who is by all accounts, perfect. Sylas though....is not.
Sy tends to be very prone to just doing what he wants, regardless of what Jack says. Generally, he has a tendency to walk all over Jack and push him around a lot. Typically this comes in the form of insults and jests at Jack's expense, but sometimes he also does some pretty severe boundary crossing behavior like just randomly adding himself to the lease and moving in.
Interestingly enough, Sylas actually hated Jack in the beginning. Jack was stalking him, and being paranoid, Sylas had been convinced he was planning on doing something to get rid of him. Because of this, when an opportunity presented itself he actually tried to kill Jack, but after the deal with Picto he can't, so he kinda just tries to torment him instead. Of course they grew closer, but that leads to....The issues with the outbursts.
Sylas is a deeply paranoid, troubled, and emotionally unstable person. This leaves him very prone to some very violent outbursts that can completely cripple power lines and has left a few innocent people dead because he completely convinced himself they did something or helped Jack do something.
He is also very obsessive, and after his ex girlfriend left him Jack became, as he perceived, the only person in the world who cared about him. This, combined with the paranoia, leads to some intense and scary questioning every time he sees Jack talk to someone that he doesn't know, and those people being thrust into some scary situations out of fear they might take Jack away from him.
However, He isn't the only toxic one in this relationship.
Jack, for his part, charges at the red flag that's Sylas Oak like a bull in a bull fight.
This is because Jack is deeply scared of living a generic, normal life. For him, Sylas, though causing a lot of instability, adds an actual point of interest for him.
He has been aggressively stalking Sylas since they were both twelve years old, and an incident between Sy and a former bully led to Jack's father committing suicide. He didn't ever resent Sylas for this, and it instead drove him to be obsessed with Sylas' inner psychology. Jack is determined to learn everything about him, no matter the cost.
Because of this, he sometimes tends to treat Sylas like a specimen or an animal to be studied, albeit a feral one so he generally tried to keep out of his range of fire so to speak. However, that became moot after their deal with the ghost of Picto Sfumato forced them to work together.
Jack in general has also always struggled with empathy, only really ever being able to see people as clues or puzzles to learn about. He pretends and similar to Sylas can manage to come across as a normal teenager, but he can sometimes slip and it becomes clear he sees something like a death as more of an interesting development then a saddening event.
This of course, this doesn't mean he is devoid of emotions or empathy, just that he struggles feeling and noticing them, and will sometimes interpret them differently from other people.
He generally tends to perceive Sylas' outbursts as inconveniences or even entertaining over recognizing any genuine emotional distress behind them. He does actually care about Sy, however it can take him a bit longer to realize there's an issue. But when he does he is actually able to handle it a lot easier then other people in Sy's life because of his general detachment.
