okay! i’m gonna yap a bit about mike from breaking bad/better call saul because i really have found a new appreciation for him

mike makes me really sad. i think his whole life is a sad time loop. he broke his son’s trust and then his son died and then he was cursed to keep inheriting troubled young men who trusted him to be on their side until he died too. first it was nacho, “heroic, romantic, and transcendent,” breaking good, someone actively trying to forge his own path and escape the underworld, likened by the actor who played him to orpheus. someone who “fell in with some bad people, but was never like them. not really. he had a good heart.” and mike had to watch him shoot himself in the head.

then it was jesse, who mike had to encourage walter to kill, who gus tasked mike with keeping content and making sure he didn’t kill himself like nacho did. mike was a mediator between walter and jesse when they wnt into business alone in season 5. mike lowkey stayed guardian angel-ing jesse since the first time they met. “i woke up. i found her. that’s all i know.” it’s like he was forced into that role by fate. he said, “i had a guy, but now i don’t.” he didn’t want jesse, not after his son, not after nacho, but he was stuck with him anyway. sigh.

the time loop continues. mike befriended the german engineer, werner ziegler. a family man. a scientist who played by his own rules. he shot werner under the stars. and then he went on to become entwined with walter. a family man. a scientist who played by his own rules. ends up shot by walter on a riverbank. werner heisenberg. i just don’t think it’s a coincidence.
