Guys i figured out how to remove ai summaries from google searches!

Obviously i would say that the more ideal way to avoid them is to switch browsers (I use DuckDuckGo) but there are many reasons I completely understand as to why you wouldn’t be able to switch.

If you want to make things easy, adding ‘-ai’ to the end of your search will usually remove the summary. However, this wont always work for some reason and ai summaries still generate below under FAQs.

To COMPLETELY get rid of them, follow this guide step by step:

In your Google browser, navigate to your settings. You should be able to find this by clicking on the 3 vertical dots on the far right, and scrolling down to select settings

On the left side of the settings menu, find and select the ‘Search engine’ tab

Dont click on change, that’s not what we’re looking for. Go to the arrow to direct yourself to ‘managing search engines and site search’.

Scroll down past ‘Search engines’ to ‘Site search’. Press ‘Add’ in this category.

Name it whatever you want. I think I named it Google Web

Under ‘shortcut’, type \@web. NOT the backslash, just the part after it. Sry I didnt want to tag anyone.

Under ‘URL’ (bear with me) type ‘{google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14’. Do not add those apostrophes they are not part of it.

Select ‘Add’

Go to the vertical 3 dots aligned with where your Google web shortcut is. Select ‘Make default’

You’re done! Feel free to browse ai-free.

Before anyone asks, no I do not know if it still generates the summary and its just hidden. Dont shoot the messenger. Please.

This method does also have downsides. Through doing this, you will only be able to look through links. No FAQs, highlighted article segments, etc. You got used to that and I don’t blame you, but I’m telling you its better than the alternative.

Do not and I mean do not click on the all tab when you browse now. That will take you back to the ai slop browser.
