The Exhaltation of Inana, The Hymn to Inana

The Hymns to Inana are one of my favourite pieces of archaic literature, especially with them being the oldest record or so in the world. Hymns to a goddess of love, beauty and war. The author sings songs to her, and through them we learn, slowly, as the laments chip away at the authors own transformation from a simple worshipper (of highly noble birth) to a high priestess who becomes a symbol of devotion and through it elevated in her status as a historical being. The hymns are incredibly powerful and beautiful in their simplicity.

Why Graydon?

As I watched the show progress I realised that Graydon goes through an incredible transformation, if not one of the most significant of the group if you ask me (psychologically). While almost everyone else is elevated from their standing into a better version of what they already were aiming for, Graydon, like larvae in the coocoon, transforms into a different man. His character almost shifts… slightly. This is what he had wanted (a brave man doing brave things in brave adventures) but never had the chance to do. Thats because transformation requires death of the self (ego, shame, shadow), courage to take a leap into the new self and ultimately, faith. It requires a price he finally gets to pay. First through pain: physical, then yearning, desire, then through giving, devoting: his love to Elora then himself.
