I notice that I feel like I should be saying something here about being grateful for the technology to travel or communicate across incredible distances or to be amid abundant food and warmth. I do feel grateful for that. This the day of giving thanks, often for that kind of thing in particular.
However, these days this blog is largely about the small good things in life, the best notable part of a day. Things that actually made me grin, not the thing I *should* be most grateful for. I am grateful for the particular mental techniques, and the authors who brought the techniques to my attention, which make that distinction clear to me. (Dear past me or people like past me: start with Not Because of Should and Joy In The Merely Real. Dear future me: make those into proper links.) There is a joy in the deft exercise of mental skill, and there are countless tragedies both great and small that are averted by thinking well.
The thing that actually made me give my first genuine grin of the day was Just-Evo-Now grousing about code, because I am glad that people working on Good Code tm exist and also because their snarking about it was funny to me. Thank you, your presumably slightly performance suffering amused me and you took the time to share it with the world.
