No, Stop That

I have been tasked with the job of puppy-sitting while I'm home alone. I am sitting in the dark on my computer so that the puppy will be able to sleep peacefully. All the dogs are sleeping peacefully, and there are no other humans here. I am alone. In the quiet. In the dark. 

So please, for the love of the gods you insufferable feline, stop jiggling the door handle in my bedroom and slowly opening the door like you're auditioning for a role in a horror movie I will accidentally kick you if you do it one more time. I knew some cats could open doors on their own, but this situation is just ridiculous.

As it Turns Out

I am not the only one who has a crush on my girlfriend. Or, more specifically, I am not the only one who has a crush on the idea of my girlfriend and I finally dating. 

My sister not just supports our relationship, she actually ships us harder than I've seen her ship anything in her life. She keeps making really enthusiastic suggestions, and it's kind of the weirdest/most relationship-validating thing she could possibly do. 

"You should talk more with her about romantic things." 

"You should send her a romantic message."

"You're going on a date? You should hold her hand."

"You should have her come over and you two should cuddle on the couch. I promise I'll stay in my room." 

"You should go visit her, y'know, just 'cause." 

I mean, I'm loving the support. Not every family is supportive of one of their sisters/daughters/etc. being lesbian, and the opinions of my family members mean a lot to me. Most families don't approve of the first person their sister/daughter/etc. chooses to date, on the grounds that they're 'not good enough' for their sister/daughter/whatever. The fact that my sister approves of my girlfriend's and my decision to date is awesome, and I wouldn't trade her shippy-yet-supportive attitude for anything. I really wouldn't.

Even so... I've never been shipped with anyone before, and it's kinda weird. I'm one half of my sister's OTP, and it's as amusing and flattering and validating as it is disorienting and/or confusing and/or unexpected. In other words, it's... well... it's weird.

Very Serious Story Time

This is a story of very, very unfortunate timing and failed pseudo-gymnastics. It's not very long, but just in case...

Alright. So, when my little sister was in middle school, she and her friends would often spend their lunch periods on the track field by the cafeteria-- a wise decision, since what they called a "playground" at that school was basically a vast expanse of poorly maintained asphalt and concrete. They liked to mess around, often by trying to one-up each other with idle tricks like cartwheels and roundhouses to pass the time. 

Well, one fateful day my sister did one of her cartwheels just a little bit wrong... and somehow managed to literally BREAK HER OWN THUMB. How she managed this without doing any more serious damage to herself, we're still not sure. Even she admits that it was a really, really ridiculous and implausible situation. 

She knew it was broken pretty quickly, too. She'd sprained her thumb doing things like that before, so she knew the difference in pain level when she felt it. Of course, she went to the nurse right away and had proof that the whole ridiculous thing had happened. When she called our mom to ask to come home early, however, she was suddenly reminded exactly what day it was. Laughter wasn't exactly the response she expected. Nor were compliments on how creative her joke was. 

I imagine you've already guessed this by now, but yeah: it was April Fool's Day. She wasn't pranked by her friends. She wasn't pranked by her family members. No, my little sister was pranked by THE UNIVERSE ITSELF. Because really, who's going to believe you broke your thumb at school doing a cartwheel on April Fool's Day? Really? 

Of course, on the bright side of things, it made the story of my brother breaking his pinkie finger by jumping off of a swing a lot more plausible a few years later. So there's that.

Unfortunate Word Choice

Mario Kart can be intense when played online, and we all say things we don't actually mean... and sometimes, it's because we don't even realize we're saying it; like my sister didn't realize what she was saying today.

Race 1

Sister: God, that girl really pounded me hard against that wall!

Me: Um... what?

Sister: Oh, god, that sounded REALLY WRONG.

Me: Really, REALLY wrong. I'll just pretend I didn't hear it.

Race 3

Sister: Dude, don't bang me in that hole; I'll die!

Me: Wait, is that even possible?

Sister: Oh my god. I didn't mean-- *breaks down laughing*

Race 4

Sister: I just saw stars around my head 'cause that guy banged me so har-- shit, no. You know what I mean!

Me: Is it, like, a reflex to say that stuff now, or...?

Sister: I swear I don't mean to do it! Whatever's causing it, it's NOT intentional!

Race 5

Sister: That's it, I'm pulling out!

Me: ... You do realize, in the context of these last few races...

Sister: I know, and I don't even care anymore. YOU know what I meant.

Sleep-Talking

My baby sister is about to graduate from high school and the realization that she'll be in college with me in the Winter has been freaking me out lately.I mean, I feel like because she's my little sister, she should stay little forever.

Of course, I guess I should've given up on the idea of her staying little when she started using curse words every time she's startled and rarely shows shock/surprise with anything tamer than a loud "holy crap;"

but she just said "oh my goodness" in a very sincerely surprised voice in her sleep-- and if that isn't an adorable enough revelation of her character to redeem her "baby of the family" status, I don't know what is.
